Depends, if you are talking about Salary, you could be right. If you are talking about cap hit, he surely will be in the top 3.
Just depends on how his deal is structured. - Cooshie
Weber makes $14 million, Toews and Kane make 13.8 million - you think Stamkos goes there? Cap hit is relevant but it is not salary.

Jesus, Tanner, it's like you have never actually watched a Leafs game. - Atomic Wedgie
What does that even mean? The stats are the stats. If you limit shots against, you're good. Doesn't matter what people think they see.
This isn't to say I don't watch the games, because I do, but a guy like Marincin is really only noticeable when he screws up, unless you're looking for him. He plays a low-impact game, but teams don't get as many shots when he's on the ice. |

In Terms of cap hit - he would have to be more than $9.538 (Ovechkin) not so sure he gets there either. |

Only time will tell - I think Stamkos would make more than the $1.7 million he currently makes in endorsements (significantly more) if he played for the Leafs. Particularly since Bell is one of the major sponsors, they also are owners of the team. I think he will play for the Leafs - and that he would rather play here than anywhere else - even though the weather is better in San Jose. Endorsements are on the rise in the NHL - McDavid just became the youngest to sign a $1 million dollar endorsement deal in history with CCM - winsix
As an owner of the team, Bell would not be allowed to enter into any endorsement deal with Stamkos. It's clearly spelled out in the CBA - that would be salary cap circumvention. |

Good point makes sense, available endorsements in TO would be superior to just about any other hockey market - particularly when you consider the percentage of Canada's population that resides in the GTA

Marancin didn't limit shots against.
He was a plug who was put out with other plugs, to play against other plugs. It was garbage minutes.
Do your stats not show you that? |

he already balked at a "Lowball" of 8 at $68 meaning even if you go up a few million i still wont consider it.
Kopitar just signed an 8 for 80.
Stamkos will get a 7 for 68-70, at low end. |

Maybe, maybe not.
The narrative from the overly-optimistic Leafs fan has always been that the money wasn't the issue in Tampa - Stamkos has decided he wants to play for the team he grew up idolizing.
If this is true, the Tampa offer isn't relevant (although I don't believe Stamkos is willing to play for peanuts in Toronto). |

I think Stamkos is better than Kopitar - but they are a good comparison. You have to consider which teams have the room to shell out $10 million a year. Is he likely to sign with Winnipeg, Carolina or Arizona? Not too sure. You have to look at the possible landing spots and where he would fit in on other teams. I am still not convinced he signs for 7 for 68 - which would put him ahead of Ovechkin - although it is possible. Buffalo, Toronto , Nashville look like possible places. Toronto makes the most sense.

I believe it to be true. He will be offered the C and be surrounded by young talent - he will not have to play for peanuts - but he will not be offered stupid money either. Maybe better than Yzerman offered - but I think Tampa is not his choice destination. |

Hard for him to be top 3 - that's Kane, Toews and Ovie.
If I was an arbitrator, I'd settle somewhere between Crosby's $8.7 and Giroux's $8.25.
That's where I see Stamkos. |

Cheapest upper bowl ticket at ACC is in the $100-$120 range (yes, season ticket prices are lower per game).
So no, price gap is closer to thrice. And forget that comparison, just google up the average ticket prices in the NHL per team. - Atomic Wedgie
Lowest ticket prices I saw for a Leafs ACC game during the season were $68 SRO and $86 CAD Corner on Ticketmaster and not a resale. They were game day ticket releases. |

Looking up single ticket prices is meaningless - take your family (four people) to a game in Tampa - buy some good seats, a couple of beers, snacks, pay for parking - and you won't spend $300.00 - try to do it in Toronto (if you can get tickets) for under $1000 - even with the exchange - making a comparison is ridiculous. Which team do you think supports the bankrupt franchises like Arizona? They've been reaching into our pocket for years. And the bonus for the Leafs is hockey socialism - the salary cap the bottom of which several teams struggle to reach. |

I agree - It would be a no brainer for TO at that price and Stamkos could play for the team he grew up loving.

Unfortunately, UFA's always get more than the value of comparative players who signed contracts in past years.
If Crosby were a free agent today, he would get a lot more than that 8.7mill. |

Toronto does put in a chunk to the revenue sharing but each playoff team puts in 35% of their home game sales. I'm not saying Tampa puts in just as much as Toronto but Tampa has to put in a good chunk since they have been making the playoffs. Toronto, NYR, Boston all probably put in the most since they are in markets that could pay a higher cap but the playoff teams get hit hard too.

Two quick points:
1. Crosby took a haircut - he set his price low.
2. I should have been more explicit - I think Tavares will get more than $9 milly (how much higher? I'm too scared to predict). My post above is what I would give him if I was an independent arbitrator. |

I strongly disagree.
Don't take the family. Leave the kids at home.
Start in Ybor City - get a good buzz going, then go to the Lightning game (take the antique trolley thingy).
One of the best game experiences I've had, and I've been to half of the arenas in the league. |

What are you disagreeing with? There was no discussion of atmosphere or quality - we were talking about ticket prices - and I have been to both venues many times. The only quality in Toronto Hockey this year was with the Marlies. The comment was about pricing.

Tampa is a good example of a what a well run franchise can do in a non-traditional hockey market. With strong drafting and winning - plus unloading a fading salary cap max guy (Lecavelier) they will be good for a long time. I do not think Stamkos will sign with Tampa. Many teams have had poor ownership and management - Leafs included , I think the Leafs have turned that corner. I would venture that there are many Canadians attending Tampa games. I think Tampa is putting in their fair share now - but that hasn't always been the case. Many teams take out much much more than they put in - which is why I used the term Hockey socialism. |
