Not gona happen. TB offerd 8.5 per Stamkos said no thanks.
Why would he sign in Toronto for less when he could have stayed in income tax free Tampa for more. - ImThatGuy
Right. Probably would make the exact same in endorsements in Tampa vs. Toronto |

Sure - would probably make the same endorsements playing for Columbus too. Give yourself a shake.

Neither is on next year's team. Lamoriello has already said - at least 50% of the team will be different in 2016-17. There better stuff on the Marlies.

Nah, they don't limit shots like Marincin.
Limit shots=Good. End of story. No point discussing any further.

I like advanced stats but holy hell some people just go overboard |

It's a Leafs fan defence mechanism - latch on to one aspect of a Leafs player's game he does well, and fall in love with him.
Jay McClement was good at faceoffs, so he was awesome.
Leo Komarov speaks five languages - he must be fantastic! |

Has there been talk or speculation about Stamkos taking a shorter deal? Sign for a small, 3 year deal for example, to stay in Tampa and try to win a cup with the core they have now while waiting for some of the youth to develop in Toronto and then jump ship? Everything I've read debates does Stamkos go to Toronto for 7 years X dollars or stay in Tampa for 8 years and X dollars. Just throwing that idea out there since Tampa is currently in a better position to win but it also leaves the door open for Stamkos to be a Leaf if he so desires in his career. |

I'm talking about Tanner. The guy that claimed Cody Franson was a borderline "Star" defenseman |

Tanner is a Leafs fan.
A huge one, actually.
He thinks Gardiner is one of the best defencemen in the league, and he has fancy-schmancy stats to back up his argument. |

DOES. NOT. MATTER.
You are going to tell me if Team X offers 10.5 MM a year and Toronto offers 8
or 73.5MM to 56MM he is going to take that?

Speaking on behalf of Leafs Nation, we are employing the endorsement argument strictly in defence of the Florida taxes argument.
The endorsement argument is not meant to be used as an attack weapon. It's a defence mechanism, like a shield or a condom. |

I don't get why anyone would think Stamkos would be interested in going from a media irrelevant perennial playoff team to a media swamped bottom feeder at the very beginning of a massive rebuild, perhaps the biggest rebuild since the first lockout in the early 2000s.
There is little to attract a free agent in the prime years of his career to join a rebuilding bottom feeder. Stamkos could walk into the front office of 29 other teams and sign a max term contract, except Tampa. |

Did not say that. I said it is possible that he will not necessarily take the highest dollar offer. When you are fortunate enough to make enough $ - where you want to play, and other factors count. Pronger did not want to stay in Edmonton for any amount.

I will never understand why more players don't go play in Florid. You live in Florida, zero state income tax.

Unless you ask him. Maybe he would rather play for a lunatic coach like Roy instead of Babcock. Maybe he would like to be an assistant captain on Colorado. Bottom feeder eh? Like the scum, cheating crap eating Nordiques that finished DEAD LAST OVERALL three straight years (on purpose) and picked up Sundin, Nolan and Lindross (first overall picks pre lottery). You should know about bottom feeders.

Lots of people don't want to live in Florida - just check out real estate prices. The zero state taxes come with a price. - they have to bribe people to stay there.

Real estate prices dictate the desire to live? How about Florida has the 3rd most people living there and is one of the 10 fastest growing populations in the US. |

How far off do you feel the Leafs are from serious contention? This is the same argument my cousin-in-law (Isles fan but Leafs hater first) always tries to draw up.
Even if the Leafs are starting from absolute zero there is no indication they could not be a contender within the lifetime of Stamkos's potential 7 year term.
If the Leafs can land a true stud #1 defenseman and an above average goalie they're in solid shape what with Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Soshnikov, Zaitsev, et al.
Short answer: in no way are the Leafs not a legitimate option for Stamkos. |
