unless benning signs him and he turns into a top 6 impact forward, benning should be fired.

True.
Remember when the top UFA NCAA prospects were Danny DeKeyser and Kellan Lain? Dekeysey has been a big part of the success in DET, so I think it is very much worth the risk. - Codes1087
I agree, definitively worth signing these guys, look at how Tanev has done but I do think it is really hard to predict much success from these guys. |

Would be nice if a different team (maybe AHL) played in the Pacific Coliseum. |

There needs to be a 15,000 seat arena in the Surrey/ Langley area that would attract all kinds of entertainment acts. I'd suggest around the Surrey Central Skytrain station. - kaptaan
theres no where to put it there tho....Im sure the area around the useless strip where they have that old hotel and strip bar right by the patullo bridge could be had for a cheap price and demolished.
and thats not far from scott road station |

Or sooner.
Break that lease and move the team to the backyard.
Give fans a chance to see some prospects and make call ups so much easier.
What is the AHL western division like? I suppose that would be the major stumbling block. |

I just saw this a few minutes ago, but apparently they were working on one down Johnston hill towards the bridge: http://vancouversun.com/s...ving-to-langley-next-fall
It also gives some actual figures for what it was costing to operate there |

I'm not sure the details of the deal but I was under the impression it would not happen before the end of the 6 years. I think it would be a smart move though.

This is very unlikely. The AUD and fan support in Utica has been ridiculous since they arrived, this is likely a really good cash cow for the Aquillini's and moving to an area that failed previously for various reasons (Abbotsford, Calgary farm team, etc) seems like too risky of a move |

The closest team to Vancouver is ~ 950 miles and Utica has 15 teams under 300 miles away.
Utica also has one of the strongest fan bases in the league and great GM who is from the area and likely would not move with team. I think there is way more reasons to keep the team where it is than to move it to the west. |

Really?
I have nothing to base this on, but i find it hard to believe that money is the issue.
FA surely has much better money making ventures than a farm hockey team...
And although the fans have been great in Utica, the fans at the coliseum would pack it out for a chance to see Vancouver prospects like Demko, McCann, Subban, etc and for an affordable rate.
My guess is re alining the AHL would be a bigger issue. |

the only negatives I have heard about Utica is the distance to Vancouver and Utica's closest airport.
I don't foresee myself ever being in Utica, but if I was there, it looks like a great place to take in an AHL game.
A bit of a pain in the ass that it is so far away but it looks like a good place for players to develop. |

From a recent article on the Comets season:
And, of course, the players paid tribute to the fans, which filled the Aud for each of the team's 38 home games this season. The Comets have sold out 55 consecutive games dating back to the 2014-15 season. Even after Thursday's loss, fans stayed to cheer for the team. Hensick, who has played in more than 500 AHL games, said the support is unlike anything he's experienced in his career.
“It's extremely fun and exciting to play in front of them,” he said. “It's something I'll always remember.” http://www.uticaod.com/ar...9/NEWS/160429354/?Start=2
I'm not saying its the sole reason, but when you've got a team in a position to make money, I cant see them wanting to move. The support has been constant from day 1, whereas I can see it struggling if the prospect pool thins out like it was in 2010-2012 when the parent club was going for championships. Yes Utica is a pain to get to, but from a business standpoint it is really successful and creating a minor league team that players enjoy being a part of |

ya i heard that fans are great there, that's awesome and they should definitely keep a team there, but i want the farm team on the west coast and i'm sure JB and TL would too.

I'd be okay if it was someone else's farm team too. I just want good affordable hockey to be played in that arena. What else would they use it for besides the occasional concert? |

It definitely has its positives having them close. Winnipeg and Toronto both share cities and call ups are really easy to make. I just don't see a move to Vancouver because of the distance to other teams, like it was mentioned above. Edmonton has one down in Bakersfield which from what I have heard is a terrible place to be, so at least the players so far are happy being in Utica? |
