Caps must be shocked. The whole of NHL media has been pumping their tires for so long, they don't know how to deal with this. |

Daley.
This Matt Murray kid looks fantastic though. Bye-bye flower?
No Letang, no Maata, no Sid in this series and you're still up 3-1 on the Washington "President's Trophy" Capitals.
Talk about playing with confidence. |

Just listening to NBC's entire broadcast. It was all Caps......and that was all based on one dominant 15 minute stretch. Ridiculous. |

You'd think a Toews supporter would be able to recognize a shut down centre... - stackthepads
Toews was MIA this post-season as well, and he'll be the first to admit it (already has). |

The Penguins aren't following their narrative. The defense was supposed to be pounded into dust by the bigger Caps team by now. |

Balanced scoring, speed, and depth is a wonderful thing. - Emperor Filonius
Must be nice to roll four lines out in the playoffs.
Our coach continued to play a refrigerator on the fourth line and therefore was only able to skate three lines consistently. Didn't realize this until half-way through the series. |

Its been all Caps since Xmas. Last 2 games we played them in the regular season we heard nothing but how deep they are. Now all playoffs is how hard Ovechkin plays, how Trotz... bla bla bla.
No one anywhere is giving us any credit, I kinda like it. We show up and get the job done. |

Like I mentioned in the last blog, there's an old boys mentality to hockey and most of the talking heads, even the good/smart ones, subscribe to it. Hockey is supposed to be played big and heavy with shut down crease protection defense. Teams that are too small or too not physical don't stand a chance. This Penguins team is completely counterintuitive to this train of thought so it's very difficult for the talking heads to give us full credit. That's why they keep calling us "the hottest team in hockey" instead of one of the league's top teams. That's why when we man handled the Rangers it was because Lundqvist didn't play well and their defense melted down. That's why the Capitals going down 1-3 in the series is on them and not this "flawed" Penguins team with their "no name defensemen". |

So ... they said we would hear from both teams following the game. I heard Trotz, Holtby and Ovi. I heard Daley and no Sullivan or anyone else. |

Its hard to win every year, as you know. I feel really bad for the Hawks since they don't have a slew of recent cup wins to think back to to soften the loss this year...oh wait ;-)
Seriously, I really hope we get to see a Pens vs Hawks final some day again... |

What most of the analysts have missed with the Pens, and have been missing since this team started to roll is it's "team defense". The forwards are pressuring the puck in every zone. Other teams don't have time to make plays.
They still haven't figured it out and that's why so many predicted this team would crash without Letang.
By the way, I think the Pens out hit the Caps tonight. Had the better hits too. |
