With a good enough roster anyone is I suppose. Problem is Lindy always needs to get stellar play from his goalies to be successful. His system allows a lot of odd man rushes coming his way. - sbroads24

Going out on a limb here ................ you're not a Ruff fan I take it? - fastek
Nah. I just have a bad taste in my mouth from the "no goal" thing. So, Ruff going to Dallas is a little bit like lemon juice in the paper cut. I wish him all the best and think he's a great coach/person…..its just him coaching Dallas that bothers me. |

He pretty much pioneered the D-man rush in the NHL.
He's fully capable of winning a Cup ............. he's simply never experienced enough puck luck IMO.
As an example .. tonight if Dallas hits that empty net early in the game .. that would possibly have been enough to tilt this game. Hockey ..... in my mind is REALLY all about burying your chances. You miss a couple of those ............ and EVERYTHING changes. - fastek
The LW Lock was pretty much all him too. Or at least revolutionized it enough to make it something new. |

I think people forget about how bad he was towards the end. He needed to go.
I mean, the guy loved Adam Mair and Matt Ellis like they were Seguin and Benn at times |

That's part of all professional sports. Eventually guys tune you out. He took a job that has an average lifespan of what? 3 or 4 years at the high end? And stretched it into 14 full seasons with the same team. He went to the playoffs more than he didn't. And went to at least the conference finals fully half of the times his Sabres teams made the playoffs(4).
I don't disagree with you, it was time to move on. And I think because he wasn't great at the end people mostly wrote off just how good he really was. He's got 702 wins. Good for 5th all-time. 5th! And he's still going. It's probable he catches Al Arbour who sits at 782 wins. Just 2 more average seasons and he gets it. The only other guys in front of him are Bowman, Q, and Hitch. That doesn't happen by accident. Also coaching the 5th most games of all-time doesn't happen by accident.
Edit: There are only 7 current coaches who have a Cup. 8 if Hartley gets a job. |

For all the oldies on the site this might be destiny for us
the Sabres traded their pick to Winnipeg ( Keith Tkachuk) as part of the Housley / Hawerchuk trade
Maybe it's destiny that we trade up and draft Tkachuk's son
- GERBE!!!75PTS
Sabres General Manager Gerry Meehan said the deal for Hawerchuk was finalized after a deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs fell apart late Friday night.
"Toronto backed out completely. They just disappeared," said Meehan. "We had several options open to us but once they (the Maple Leafs) backed out (of a deal that would have sent Housley, Mike Foligno and Benoit Hogue to the Leafs for Ed Olczyk, Mark Osborne and a draft choice), we concentrated on this one. We certainly had to give up quality to get quality,

I love how one of the criticisms of Hawerchuk in this article is lack of commitment to defense. Then two sentences later the writer cites his potential for great defensive efforts.
Good stuff.

Another crap trade - SABRES 89
I liked the trade.
Thank christ the Toronto trade didn't happen.
Prior to when that trade would've happened Olczyk had 433 points of his 794 thru his first 6 seasons, he would score the rest over the next 11 years.
Mark Osbourne was a lump of sh!t. He would score 96 points the rest career after this point.
He and Olczyk would be sent to Winnipeg on 11/10/91 for Dave Ellet and Paul Fenton. |

and on another note...
I was given all that poop for complaining about the game 7 start time between the Ducks and Preds..."The world doesn't revolve around the east coast!" "if they start it before 10 nobody will be home to watch!" "the arena will be empty!"
Trying to be understanding I asked if a 9pm start would work...earlier enough for east coasters, late enough for west coasters.....to which I was subjected to the same poop
And now we have a 9pm start time for a game 7 between the Sharks and Preds.....idiots |

No you were given poop that a 9pm game would cause more of an overlap when an east coast team is playing and it's bad for ratings. Keep patting yourself on the back though... |
