And this is one of the main reason the avs have struggled. Poor drafts since 2009. - Drij
ive been saying that for a very long time, cant build winning teams by signing UFAs and trading for other teams unwanted parts.
Yet there is still some Av fans out there who would trade guys like Grigo, Zads, Bigras for quick fix Dmen solutions.
Team finally has some young talent injecting into the line up. Let those 3, plus rants, pickard, and potentially compher force some of the garbage vets out of the line up.
Keep the Core together and let the young guys filter into the roster |

I'm still new to this site but what do you think of the 2015 draft crop so far other than Rantanen Coga.? Do you think the Avs will draft a defensemen or forward in the first round this summer? |

Very much agree coga. We have our core (dutch, mack up the middle, Landy on the wing, eh and barrie on the back end) we also have soderberg, beach and Comeau being great filler and signed for 2 years (sods a bit more) young talent coming up in zads, bigras, rants, rigs and picks. In the system we have compher, natel, the Russian d guy and Swedish d man. To me that right now is a weakness but we have some nice pieces in junior like Greer boudin... all on winning team. We are drafting playera on winning teams. Insert this draft class ( either one of the top 3 d guys or mcleod) we will have players pushing the holden, Mitchells and Comeau off of the team. Your draft your top 6, and top 4 d and sign other to fill the bottom 6 with young guys pushing for those jobs to start till they move up the line up. |

Solid 2015 draft. Also the first with the full new management under Joe and Patrick. They fired Percy an old had of scouting after the 2014 draft. Rant looks like a steal at 10th pick. We got compher in the orielly trade looks awesome, aj Greer and boudin are headed to the memorial cup solid guys tearing it up and will likely be there next year. The other drafteeside are pretty good, depth that will grow. If we can get 1 or 2 of them in the NHL it's a win but they're 4 to 5 years away |

I agree with Sky. 2015 draft is looking very good at the moment. 2013 as well.
2013
MackInnon (NHLer)
Bigras (NHLer)
Spender Martin (new no. 1 in Rampage and probably NHL back up in 3 years)
Geertsen - Promising, lots of work to do still to but probably AHLer
Butcher - Promising, still years out to see what he is, could be 3rd pairing guy
2015
Rantanen - NHLer
Greer - Looking like a steal
Meloche - Solid D prospect
They are drafting way better in the Roy era...2014 did snag Natal and Lindholm in the later rounds.

Avs need to trade for Ivan Provorov ASAP!!!!! This kid has been fun to watch in the WHL finals. Literally dominates the game every night. Speed, defense, great transitions up the ice...... Kid is going to be a Calder candidate type player next season. Could use a player of his type on the Avs to really push the young d-core of Zadorov and Bigras. Don't see much on the horizon for the Avs defensive prospects coming up. Been pretty bleak since Barrie, Shattenkirk, and Bigras on the defensive picks. The Hishon and Siemens busts set the Avs back a little. |

Ya he's really impressed me! He's got a great shot! Thanks for the input guys, I only really got to follow the 3 huskies players and wanted to know more about our other picks! I'm really looking forward to seeing the 3 at the memorial cup games! |

So let me clarify, the Shattenkirk trade is looking worse and worse each year? |

Messing with ya but honestly any sort of package like the for a forward and some extra parts would be a disaster.
Only way moving Barrie makes sense is that they are moving him for another Dman with similar contract issues.
Ducks, Leafs, Avs join forces to make a deal happen. As the main pieces
Leafs - Barrie
Avs - Vantanen
Ducks - JVR |

What do you think it would take to get Lindholm out of anaheim? Barrie + swap of first rounders? |

I would be real happy with that. Not sure if anaheim would want to run two purely offensive defensemen like barrie and vatanen though. I hope they trade back in the draft either way. |

what would you hope for most, them trade the pick away completely for help now or trade down and get assets along with it? |

Dont trade the pick away, if they mvoe it get more assets trading down if they are targeting a certain guy.
The other thing I can see them do is use it in a trade with Barrie (I dont want to see him move but I wont be shocked) but if they can get a Dman back plus jump up higher into the draft...its an interesting idea
Barrie + 10th to Edmonton for Player X + 4th-8th Overall pick |

that makes sense! that would be a sweet deal depending on the player X! preferably a Defense unless if we use the pick to drat a defense! |

Thats the only way it makes sense to me. Lets say if its with Buffalo, Avs grab Bogo and the 8th and then draft Chychru or Juolevi depending on who is available.
I dont see how it works any other way |

The focus on this draft simply needs to be drafting the best available player and not trying to fill a need like the defense. Rantanen brought nothing to the table statistically this past season and was the best available player, so that is why we drafted him. This potential 10th overall pick needs to be selected on his potential and not a positional need. There are no guarentees any player will reach his draft pick potential, just look at Siemens and Hishon.
I'm hoping the Avs can lock Barrie down long-term at a reasonable rate, but they handcuffed themselves when they set the max salary of an Avs player with Duchene at $6 million. If a player thinks he is worth more, i.e. O'Reilly, then the Avs have to either trade him or show Duchene and Johnson they don't keep their word.
I'm hoping the Avs can find answers via free agency to fill the voids on defense. A line-up with Johnson, Barrie, Beauchemin, Bigras, Zadorov, and a legit defender like a Goligoski, Schenn, Hamhuis, or the like would be a great upgrade over having a choice between Holden, Guenin, Gormley, or Redmond. There is also the chance Gelinas pans out and can get back on target after an off year.
For the record, Johnson is not a top tier defenseman, he's a top pairing guy, but I haven't seen him except in a few shifts here and there live up to the billing of a franchise defenseman and we need one to lead this team. He will prove his worth next season because he already has the contract in hand for 7 more years. |

Do you think they could do a major defense overall if not this year, next? |
