He's been pretty average for a while, and his shortcomings are masked by the best defensive team in hockey.

http://m.bleacherreport.c...ck-is-not-an-elite-goalie

http://www.fearthefin.com...ecause-the-nhl-is-bonkers

"Quick has put up some great numbers in the playoffs in years passed (not so much this year) but his regular season save percentage over the past three seasons is just .915. That's 18th among goalies who played at least 9,000 minutes over the past three seasons"

Average

- sbroads24

Your first article is arguing that Quick is not elite. It specifically talks about his playoff runs, his great talent and ability to steal games. Doesn't sound like your writer would say he is average.

"So there should be no question that Quick can dominate a game, a series, even an entire playoff run. And for some commentators (and doubtlessly some of the readers who comment on this article), that’s enough. It’s enough to know that Quick has the ability to carry a team on his back to the postseason and even to the Stanley Cup."

He goes on to talk about Quick's "Implosion" this year...he hasn't played well recently you're right, but him playing poorly puts him at 18th out of 30 starting goalies (9000 minutes in 3 years means you are a starter most likely) (middle of the pack), if he is on his game he is top 10. He won that first cup by himself IMO. That's not average.

mmmmm. barley crack!

Right now I have in the oven a freshly prepared herb-crusted, organic grass-fed, frenched rack of lamb, served with mashed potatoes and romaine salad. Gerbe would rather order a pizza.

Got beef marinating in red wine, oatmeal stout, thyme and bay leaf for stew tomorrow.

Staal=no way.

And I completely disagree with that. He was great for most of the playoffs, but they faced maybe the worst team to make it to a cup in 15 years in New Jersey, who like I pointed out before barely even tested Quick in a few games.

There is a reason why Bernier, Enroth, Jones, Scrivens have all put up good numbers there. It's goalie heaven.

After beating out the 1st and 2nd place teams in the West in Vancouver and St Louis...in 9 games at that.

Again, he was great through most of the playoffs, and deserves the Conn Smythe he won. But they got lucky with who they played as well in the finals. That Jersey team was incredibly average.

Fact is, he's been average for a while. He's not a great goaltender.

How many teams have won a cup without a 1st line center or #1d?
- sbroads24

I'm not sure where you're getting that from I've never made that argument, just that goalie is a hell of a lot more important than some suggest. Whether it's a goalie catching lightning in a bottle like Murray so far this year, Niemi, or like Leighton to get there. You need to have the best goalie. Niemi only wins 10% of the time in the cap era. The only way to possibly, maybe ensure that is to pay one. I'm not saying you need to pay Lundqvist numbers, but $6M-$7M is probably where the sweetspot is. It's not a long term thing, the window is probably only 3 or 4 years at the outside with an average GM, but who on here wouldn't give sucking for the 10 years after 4 legitimate shots at the cup like this years Caps team? The Caps were just unlucky this year that they ran into a rookie who had 13 whole games of experience coming into the playoffs playing way above his head.

Good thing Myers did not go the other way in the O'Reilly trade or he would be a total bust .

Nah, O'Reilly was really good. Kane was not. But it's Buffalo, where 35 point seasons are celebrated because the player tried hard and forechecked.

I'll await the response about him needing time to adjust and he just had jet lag or something

Eichel is a much more likeable individual than Hasek. Eichel will end up much more than a fringe all-star. One does not score 56 points as an 18/19 yr old in this low scoring era and not progress into a top 10/ prob top 5 player

Ahh but how quickly you forget that he had 17 or 18 assists in that timeframe so he wasn't exactly "Moulsen like" then.

Go troll somewhere else. You know deep inside that maple syrup clogged heart of yours that Eichel will be ahead of Matthews in all aspects of the game. Buffalo will continue its domination of Toronto next season just like they have for the past decade +

I'll take 20 goals in 3/4 of a season at 5 mil, or close to it, especially since Kane's our fastest player and only forward with skill that plays physical. And he's only 23?

He's coming up on his last year on contract, so perhaps he proves he can act like a grown up and plays well, otherwise he'll be trade bait.

Be interesting to see what okposo gets this off season. Hope he doesnt get 7. Im good with kane at 5.25, he is probably worth what okposo is. I think murray wants him here but i dont want him getting that unless hes healthy and scores 30 for the next 2 years.

I'd rather spend the assets to lock in a LHD, not another righty.
Here's my plan for GMTM...

Trade to Edmonton to select Tkachuck...20 playoff games and 20/20 for 40 says "gamer" to me.
lock up McCabe and Risto quickly, bridge for both would be ideal,
Then sign Stammer...
OfferSheet Torey Krug
Go in for Vessey

Take August off, Invite the coaching staff up to the cottage for a long weekend..and drill in their collective heads a 3rd round playoff appearance is the objective, with no excuses for anything less.
