I usually don't read his stuff because he would constantly shove down our throat
About Danny , drury I totally understand it was managements fault but you just had to let it go at some point and not bring it up every time .. - GERBE!!!75PTS
What does any of that have to do with signing Stamkos? |

Seeing as it was an article about signing Stamkos the reason you gave for not reading it was kind of odd. |

Its not whether we would get anyone better at his role, its whether we would be foreclosed from getting others at other roles - IE 1st pair Dmen - Der Kaiser
Then you get rid of Bogo who's being paid top pair money, or buy out Moulson, trade Ennis etc.
With star players you make it work. People are acting like Eichel is already making 10 mil and we are close on the cap. |

Bogo and Molson will both be gone, IMO, before a Stamkos contract starts to pinch. and a $10M/yr contract is hard to work around.
But you have a fair point. |

That's fair...
But we definitely would have additional room
Guys will be coming off the books
Signing a guy like Yandle (who is only a 2nd pair guy IMO) is what would limit us in finding a true top pair partner for Risto |

Anyone else you would pay 10m a year that is available ? Team needs a star . been a while and I won't count Vanek. He was good but not great. I say sign Stam and worry about everything else afterwards. Jack and Sam are a few years away from the payday. We don't have 6m tied up in a goalie so it makes it easier .
We have a couple 5m players I would trade for 1 player at 10mil. We have been wanting that star and no player on our team is worth 9-10m. |

Not one guy at $10M, but it could get us two young breakout stars (ie Stone and Fowler?) |

It's hard to work around it if it ends up a bad contract, but with Stamkos being 26, we don't worry about that for at least 5 years. 2017-2018 is a great chance at a cup for us IMO. Eichel will he hitting his stride, Reinhart at 22 and in his prime, both cost controlled, we can load up to make a run that year . |

I remember a pissing match a while ago where we all yelled and pulled out our hair when somebody suggested hockey players begin their decline at a surprisingly low age.
I can't remember who made the suggestion, and I can't remember the low age, but I know it was lower than 31. Do you recall? |

I also remember about 15-20 times having to remind people that the elite players in the league decline at a much later age |

Yeah...
But we can't just sign them.
We'd prob have to give up quite a bit in those trades.

I get that . Usually by 25 you know who will be Elite for a forward. Dman take a couple more years imo. |

You sound like a smart poster, but you really gotta stop trying to point out me being hypocritical. You aren't very good at it.

I could be/probably am delusional, but what about the chance TM trades for SS' rights, then does a flip with the team he really wants to go to, assuming there is one, and gets a really nice player back as part of it?

Love this post. Not set in stone, but I still feel we don't know exactly how high Risto, McCabe, Pysyk and even Bogo can get right now, let alone Jack, Sam, Marcus and even Evander, Johann, and Lioneater. |

My wish I wish he would trade for Stamkos before the leafs make their first pick
I would give the eighth overall pick for him if it's a sign and trade in a second

It's less about age and more about NHL games played IMO.
Some of them have played 200+ games. I think after 2 or 3 full seasons you know what you have |

I wouldn't say hypocritical. I would say inconsistent in your logic.
What does it take to have to "have a healthy career for longevity purposes?" Does Stamkos qualify? It's a routine position on this board that Lehner is "injury prone." Has he suffered more frequent or severe injuries than Stamkos?
Again, I'm not saying we shouldn't try to sign him. I'm saying we should do that with more than a "no brainer" approach. |

That makes zero sense
If Stamkos "really" wants to go to a particular team,
Why would they have to give a player up when they could just wait till july1 & sign him for nothing |

Probably correct as a rule, but there are tons of exceptions, and because we are such a young team and I am a patient person I have an open mind on all those I mentioned. |
