No one drafted by dubas rated in the 3-4 round range as far as I can see.
Why would he be in Europe talking to teams? - burn
either that or the ECHL |

Some useless vets need to stick around to be made available for the expansion draft as well. - Phenom
They can only protect 8 skaters, They won't lose useless vets to the expansion draft. |

it's his draft year; keeping all his options open. The European teams make you go there; take a physical etc. NHL teams give the questionnaire and make visits locally. - Kinggilmour
Okay but if he's getting drafted this summer, wouldn't his NHL team have a say where he plays? |

common sense would also tell you not to sign a guy like Robidas, Clarkson etc....but it just dooesnt work that way.
Leafs are 1 contract away from the league Max; can't sign anyone if you dont move anyone out. Hunter and Dubas are very confident in the draft clas coming out of the 2nd round....Bozak wont get moved unless "assets" are coming back. Lupul will cost the leafs a draft pick or prospect like Kapanen to move. - Kinggilmour
False
They aren't moving a guy with a pick or a prospect that isn't hurting their cap. That is idiotic. |

Yes but they will have to expose a certain amount of veterans as per league regulations, even if they don't get selected. |

Given his location, if anything, he'd be Joe Raaymakers' dad. Only Soo player up for draft from that region of the province, and also close to Detroit. - lumlums
Yes saw that. Tyler wall also, but not playing in the ohl. Also from that area
Found a Jonathan wall working for the Canucks. |

Subtract all the guys who become UFAs on July 1st.
Although I agree with your premise that the Leafs would be wise to losd a few contracts. |

it's actaully a very good deal for the leafs. Freeing themselves of his contract (dollars and actual contract) actaully give them flexability at the Draft. 12 picks can easily turn into 14 or 15....Hunter and Dubas know this draft class very well and want to take full advantage this and next year. The year after these next 2 drafts they will be losing 3rd round picks to detroit and NJ....so capitalizing on these picks at such low picks is crucial. - Kinggilmour
Who do you think the leafs pick 1st? |

He hasnt been drafted yet. This is his draft year. Most likely going to Philly....we've met with them several times already. My son is a very skilled smaller player; playing in Europe for a year or 2 will give him the AHL option right away; and hoepfully a better shot of being called up rather than playing another 2 years in the OHL - Kinggilmour
So am I right in assuming he hasn't played in the CHL yet?
They really need to eliminate that "no AHL" rule. |

They have to expose everybody else other than players with less tha 2 years under contract, why would any team pick a useless vet over the younger guys they will have to leave exposed? |

Nope. If he's playing in the ohl and gets drafted, he can't go to Europe. Has to stay in ohl or go to nhl. No ahl no Europe until turns 20.

sound like a player the Leafs would be interested in. |
