Leafs already tried to build a team around a gifted goal scoring winger - how did that work out. They may go through the motions but they are taking Mattews. As far as Stamkos goes - I can't see Tampa signing him. Every team including the Leafs that can afford the cap space should be in on him. They have no captain and he plays and trains the right way.

i think they've decided on Matthews already. teams need a #1C, and like babcock said, they can have a huge effect on the game. not to mention, he also said no one is trading you one. the only way for you to get one is by drafting one, and they finally have the opportunity to do so. there is absolutely no way they don't take matthews.
