How about just keeping Schenn and his 26 goals, rather than signing a 31 year old or the $11 million man? - Feanor
Exactly to this. I don't understand why so much of the fanbase wants to throw Schenn into trades. Or at least considers him expendable. He just put up 26 goals and 59 points as a 24 year old, and has been increasing in points every season. For a team who really lacks offense in my mind, he is a huge building block of this team moving forward. I fully expect he continues to improve and has 65+ points next year. |

Are they? Friedman supplied this year's compensation chart today. So I think a team could offer sheet Schenn at five years, $5.63m AAV, and only have to give up a 2017 1st and 3rd. But I don't know what team will have the cap space, picks and desire to do that.

Less than $1,239,226 Nothing
Over $1,239,226 to $1,877,615 Third-round pick
Over $1,877,615 to $3,755,233 Second-round pick
Over $3,755,233 to $5,632,847 First and third-round picks
Over $5,632,847 to $7,510,464 First, second and third-round picks
Over $7,510,464 to $9,388,080 Two firsts, a second and third-round picks
Over $9,388,080 Four first-round picks - Feanor
With that compensation, I wonder if that will push Winnipeg to trade Trouba. A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is not very high compensation for a him but that salary could be a killer for a budget team. |

Schenn for #2 overall and a 4th
Compared to some of the values I've seen on here, I don't think that's too outlandish.

Question I asked my friend:
If you had to choose either Patrick Kane or Sidney Crosby to have never played in the NHL, which do you pick? |

I agree, but to be fair, he was actually one of the better producing wings in the league since the new year.
Just in time for payday. - Hesh_
I don't think he has reached his peak yet ...I would not trade him...but they need to add to the mix with high end talent. |

More realistically, I wonder if you could get him for Morin plus something like a 2nd. They have skilled right handers in Buff and Myers. A big defensive lefty that is pretty close to being NHL ready could be very attractive to pair with one of those guys.
I don't think Winnipeg would want just picks since they do want to compete somewhat soon. |

This is a tough one. Without P Kane, I wouldn't be haunted by the fact he should have been our prized possession. Without Crosby, my most hated player shifts to someone else, and the pens arguably are not the most hated team. |

Crosby.
Here's an interesting side question to that: How would you feel about his career if Sidney Crosby played on the left coast with the Ducks? |

They would have helped but even if they got past the capitals which there isn't a guarantee even with them all healthy, they would have been smoked by the Penguins like they were all season.
Look at a team like Tampa who were/still are missing their 2nd best defenseman and their top forward and made it to the conference finals with ease. That's my idea of a Stanley Cup contender: superstar defenseman, elite talent with depth thru the lineup. The kind of depth that can still make for a competitive effort against the better teams even with some pieces missing. The Flyers aren't that good yet and won't be for a couple of seasons. Why not plan for that day? - psuhockey
They beat Detroit and the NYI. I wouldn't really put them in the same class as Washington and Pittsburgh.
It wasn't just a couple of injuries either. Their 5 most important players were playing through serious injuries or not playing at all.
No one is saying they are as good as the Lightning. I just don't think they're as far away as you seem to think. |

Serious upgrades are needed.
If they don't do something up front, they could be on the outside again easily. They can upgrade the back end from within. |

I'd still hate his stupid face but would he be as whiny of a female dog as he has been his whole career in Pittsburgh? That's a big caveat for me. I'll recognize Crosby's skill all day long but he's a cry baby, cries to the refs when he gets touched and constantly takes shots an G's wrists in the faceoff circle. (frank) him. |

Just to blow things out of proportion...are we saying they get drafted and just never play? Because no Kaner means the Flyers probably draft someone other than JVR |

No, it would have to be multiple young, cheap players. Morin and a 2nd is a place to start, but add, at the least, the 2017 1st rounder and a prospect like Konecny. |

Without Crosby, the Penguins are no longer in Pittsburgh.
I'd say Kane, only because we got screwed by not getting the first pick and then he came back and scored the Cup-winning goal on Flyers' ice. That's more important to me than having a perfect villain. |

Schenn is going to be re-signed, as he should be. No trading. No offer sheets. He's going to be a key complementary piece moving forward.
Laine is going to be a Jet. Not only will the Jets not trade the 2nd pick, but if they did, it won't be to the Flyers. 2 prospects, 2 picks, and Schenn is not only a backwards move for where this team is now, but would go COMPLETELY against the philosophy Hexy has instilled. And guess what? The Jets are in the right to ask for that in return. Why not? Kid has 30+ goal potential. He's a tank.
So. What else can we talk about?
Why does Giroux suck?
Why hasn't Hextall traded Amac yet?
Who do the Sixers pick and trade next?
Will the Union be any good this year?
Can Hackstol kill penalties?
Can the Phils' pitching keep it up?
Why isn't it ever sunny anymore?
The possibilities are endless. |

That's not a realistic offer for a 22 year old RHD who averages 22:33 minutes per game and 24 points per season. |

Ok a 1st and two 2nds more realistic because that is what a similar player got last year. Or is something that actually happened not realistic enough for you? |
