I am interested in what they do with goaltending.
IMO, if Allen isn't your guy going forward, trade him now while he still has value. We have a log jam of young goalies who look to be ready for a cup of coffee.
They can't all be in the AHL unless you are loaning then to other teams.
Binnington, Copley, Nilsson, Husso
Husso should be in the AHL next season. I'm excited about him. He didn't really play much after acquiring him, but I am intrigued with Nilsson and think he could be the backup next year.
Do they move Elliott or Allen? I don't think they just stick with goaltending as is.
(Sorry if I spelled any of them wrong. Not really interested in looking them up right now) - carcus
I would trade Allen actually
He has more value IMO than Elliott
Being younger and you might be able to get a nice asset back
Elliott Nilsson in STl next year wouldn't be bad
Husso and Binnington in AHL
Try and move Copely I guess |

Not sold on Binnington. I would move on from him over Copely personally.

I don't know much about any of the Goalies in the AHL
Husso has been the most impressive I feel
at least from what I have read |

Rough way to go out. Good news is we beat 2 very solid teams on the way to the conference finals and the team is still in a position to grow.
Tarasenko looked like he didn't know how to play when his shots weren't getting through. His line ended up turning the puck over before our D gained the zone and putting the next shift on it's heels far too often. Schwartz was basically useless out there because Tank wasn't passing.
I loved Berglund's play overall through the playoffs. He was probably second only to Steener when it came to making sure we had control of the puck long enough to do exactly what the STL line wasn't doing. He still lacks some critical playmaking/shooting ability but I think I'd re-sign him at the end of next year.
I said at the beginning of this series that if the Blues don't take the cup home this year, I hope it's SJ. I see a lot of similarities between STL and SJ, the sharks have a chance now to prove that anybody can overcome the "choker" tag. They played pretty close to their best the whole series and the team d was formidable. Other than a few of the cheap shots I was more impressed by them than I expected to be.
Still a bad way to go out but I feel a lot better about the team going forward than I have after many of the previous years. |

Food for thought
Per Brandon Byskal āā@brandonbyskal
Burke: said he will almost certainly use one of, or some, of the #Flames 2nd round picks to get a goalie. Should happen around the draft. |

Totally misread that earlier. Sorry for the Richard comment. It's deleted. No point in being like that.
Also, just saw the video of Backes talking about Ott. Pretty moving stuff... |

Yes! The escalators should work now.
But seriously, excited about potential renovations. - carcus
Did you guys see on Twitter that Sobotka is likely coming back?
Jamie Rivers indicated that he was getting death threats in Russia
If Sobo comes back and is a Blue does that Push Brodziak out of the picture or Upshall?
Would really like to go away from the Ott/ Reaves players and move to a fourth line of Speed and a little skill |

Just because he is coming back, don't assume he will be putting on the Blue note again. More on that in an upcoming blog. The hint is though that Sobotka would be making 3rd line money and you can't afford to pay 4th liners, 3rd line money. |

Third line is probably a good place for him if he fits your budget. If he's healthy after playing over there. Rivers says the death threats come from not being able to earn the money he's being paid because of injuries.
I'd be happy to keep Brodziak around. I'm lukewarm on Upshall. He played well, but those guys are always out there on the cheap.
I'm sure the Blues have gauged his feelings about things and we'll know if we see his rights dealt away once he announces he's coming back to 'Merica. |

I have a feeling that he would be traded. Not sure how well it will go over in the locker room for him after leaving for Russia.
I think his Blues days are over. |

Could we package him and a goalie for a young player and a second round pick? |

I seriously doubt he has much value.
He is a 4th line player. Great with faceoffs and can move up in the lineup if needed, but his career high is like 9 goals and 30 points.
His contract is too big for what he contributes offensively.
Maybe Edmonton needs a defenseman (Shattenkirk or JBo) along with a defensively responsible forward???

At this point would you rather move Shatty or J Bo
I say Bo if we can find a taker
Keep Shatty and flip him at the TDL if needed or something |

The more I think about a trade with Edmonton, the more I think it should be Shattenkirk for a LHD with top pairing potential. Like Shatty for Nurse. Works for Edmonton too, leaves them all their forward trading chips to get Hamonic, suddenly they have a legit top 4. Blues resign one of Backes or Brouwer.
Schwartz/Lehtera/Tarasenko
Steen/Statsny/Fabbri
Berglund/?/Backes or Brouwer
Upshall/Brodziak/Reaves
Then let Sobotka, Jaskin, Barbarshev & PRV fight for that third line spot (and spelling Reaves).
Nurse/Petro
JBo/Parayko
Gunnar/Edmundson
Bortuzzo
Pretty much everyone on the left can get moved around based on matchups and how well Nurse plays next year. |

If we move JBo, who plays top pairing with Petro? Shatty struggled on the leftside. Gunnar struggled on top pairing. Edmundson struggled on bottom pairing the last 3 months, let alone top. |

I don't know
Let Edmundson play up there
Let Pietro shield him a bit |

Remember, Lindbohm was just as good in 14/15 as Edmundson was in 15/16. If Edmundson has a bad camp, he isn't even on the team to start the year. Edmunson was struggling with 3rd pairing minutes so much he got benched at some point in all 3 playoff series. Both JBo & Gunnar outplayed him the last 3 months, and I don't think any of us liked the results of Petro trying to shield them.
I'm not high on JBo. But he is miles ahead of any other option we have; and I don't think there are any UFA's we could sign to take his place. |

I agree, it's a little too early to just assume that Edmundson can take over the number 2 slot. You dont' move J bo until you are sure that you have a guy who can take that spot, either in house or coming back in a trade, the latter being pretty unlikely.
I was upset with J bo after the last game but honestly, you can't pin the loss solely on him. This team just needs a few tweaks and the D is already going to have a different look with Shatty likely gone.
I'd like to see more changes up front with a little more speed and flair replacing one of our slower players. If Backes or Brouwer want big time money, I would rather spend it on Kyle Okposo. |
