Backup money...and also that is what I would offer him as well
Rebound Control is an issue for sure... The newer age goaltender is about movement and Chad just is slower to react hence the rebound issues...he usually lets the puck hit him and then reacts instead of trying to smother the puck instantly like a Holtby or Bishop...another thing...SIZE...cant teach size...Ullmark and lehner have it and johnson does not. The organization has clearly shown their belief in those two over chad...hope he does well with another team if he is going to try to give it another shot |

the fact that lehner does not stay healthy forces the sabres to get a backup if they don't retain johnson
you can't have ullmark and kasdorf as your nhl goalies when lehner goes down for his 3 month ding |

IMO this is the same situation as the OV/Malkin draft or the Hall/Seguin draft.
Laine may very well be the better player when it's all said and done.
but
You have to take the center. |

Honestly, Ullmark could handle it. Kasdorf IMO is years away if ever.

Bylsma ended the topic with a very straight forward quote, “I don’t know of any coach whose been fired because their team gives up zero goals in a game.”

Johansson is 2 years away from playing in NA.
Petersen 2 years away from AHL play.
You dk what either are or will be until then. My guess if you sign Johnson to a 2 yr deal and he gets taken in the expansion draft, thus making Ullmark the NHL backup. This allows Kasdorf, Johansson, and Petersen to fight it out. |

Johnson may or may not be a good #1, but there are more and more teams going with the 2 goalie system and I think he definitely could slot in any of those spots playing 30-40 games. He could do that here, but we may want to give one of our prospects a chance to move up (probably losing Makarov). I could see him going to Carolina if they don't resign Ward, which I don't think they should. Maybe Toronto or Edmonton. |

Let's lock it down. Play "smart", "system hockey." Better yet, let's just stay behind our own net with the puck, line everyone up around the defenseman to protect him.
No one gives up any goals. All the coaches are happy. The dinosaurs running the league smile in approval.
The only complaint is that there are no head shot concussions dealt out by the good old-fashioned "tough guys" of the league. Post game, players lament about getting pucks deep and giving 110%.
Rant over. |

back-up goalie is a hole for tmgm to fill and Johnson's probably not interested in doing it...there will be quite a few backups to be had on the market and said goalie doesn't need to have jhonny-like numbers, just needs to do spot duty...hopefully

Edmonton locked up Talbot so I'd assume they're not looking really, and honestly I think more teams want to look at James Reimer more than Johnson. I mean I'm not bashing Chad at all, but being 30 and having 102 game starts in your career doesn't make me jump to the phone |

Not sure what options will be available for Johnson to start.
My guess is he has to take a job where he's the back up to start with. |

paul Hamilton brought up the whole defense thing and his ass ain't on the line...coaches are making seven figures and they'll do their best to win without gambling...
everybody talks about offense and sabres fans bring up the "Ferrari sabres" back in '06...they were beaten by a bigger, stronger, tougher Ottawa team that was beaten by a big, strong, even tougher Anaheim team...
lindy ruff coached that team and he's the coach of the dallas stars who lost in the last round of the playoffs...
don't get me wrong, I would like to see more of gretzky's oilers, but it ain't happening, imo |
