Seems to be market price, as Lefty frequently says, You gotta give to get. As soon as I heard picks were involved I knew the chicken little crowd would be freaking out. Always good comedy, just waiting for Phucker to make a guest appearance. - Marwood

The deal isn't horrible.
However if I'm a Canucks fan, I'm looking at an aging twins and a window that's closed.
I think I'd rather have a 19 year old who's already proven to be NHL caliber and what is essentially a late first, than a mid twenties number 4 D-man. - stormey
I think Gudbranson still has a#2 ceiling , just needs to develop some offence. I'm pretty high on McCann, the 2nd doesn't bother me so much.
With Sutter and Horvat, not much room for McCann though and we'll still need a future #1C.
I'm sure we'll get another opportunity to draft one within the next couple of years. |

Cam you super impose the number of Canuck draft picks who make it to the NHL? It would be much clearer with the dramaticly lower percentage that truly represents our actual picks who turn out.
I avoided the boards like a pleasure yesterday and boy am I glad I did.
Vantel I knew that you were actually Jim Benning, good call
So now that we have both EG and BS, who do we target next? You where very high on lucic for a long time, if you still are then I'd Hazzard to guess that we will sign him.
Just going out on a limb here but does anyone else think that is a strange coincidence that both mccaan and Stamkos are centers? And JB just freed up a roster spot for a top line center
Good thing he traded him before he signed SS or else his value would have devastatingly decreased. - Pres.cup

Last year our second and third pair RHD was Weber and Bartowski for most of the year and throw in Biega. Anyone who does not see this as an upgrade, does not know hockey. - VANTEL
Great trade.
Give to get we replace McCann with Dubois or Tkachuk and our top looks a trillion times better then it did before. you cant steal good players from teams and who cares if we added an extra pick we needed a big nhl dman and we got one. Awesome move. |

You do realize that you could draft Dubois or Tkachuk regardless of this deal...right?
So instead of replace...you supplement. |

The analytics guys will tell you Gudbranson is not a top four guy, currently, yes he led Florida in ice-time these playoffs but he didn't have a great playoffs, according to what I've read.
I watched the Islanders series and he really didn't stand out.
His numbers, career high 13 points, and analytics say he's only a slight upgrade on players they could have acquired for nothing. |

That's definitely what I recommend the Oilers do. Get one of Dubois/Thachuk and then next year draft another forward |

Director of CSS said they look at analytics last.
His 13 points are a direct correlation to his O-zone positioning, which is something that can be coached. Since he's been groomed as a shut down D-man, he's always tentative in the O-zone. He needs to get into better spots.
What you can't coach is his cannon, which he needs to learn to use. |

Upgrade is an upgrade. And the 28 y/o + will not likely improve as much as a 24 y/o will. I'll pay for the slightly better player who still actually has upside. He will be a very good partner for Hutton, who will be able to focus on more of an offensive Dman style play. |

and in the words of brian burke what you also can't coach is truculence. Even the name McCann sounds really soft. On other hand, look at 'Gudbranson'.
much strong

Decent trade . McCann is pretty poor. Gudbransson is meh, but better. Draft picks hurt a bit but not too bad. Seems to be a strangish rebuild, getting older guys in trades. Never believed McCann was a core piece, just overrated. Now just trade Horvat and Virtanen for some established guys and you might get one more shot with the twins. |

I like that Bennng went out and got Gudbranson, he'll compliment Hutton's game for sure.
But....if you look at his numbers, he's not everything people are hoping or saying he is. Yes he's big, he can be physical, he can block shots, BUT, his corsi is a poor 46%, his suppression game is poor.
I like that he's a Canuck, but I don't like the price paid considering this is or should be a rebuilding team. |
