So because the Pens tank like champs & get Lemieux then Crosby u sayin they built a championship the hard way? FYI when or if we ever get a 1OA get back to us. - Nighthawk
Go back and read what the actual discussion was about if your up for it. It was about whether the Seahawks winning was considered a Vancouver area championship or not.
btw I totally endorse tanking if it wins championships |

I think Bo is top 6, so 3!!!! - golfingsince
I don't, he's struggled too much when put there. But at least he has potential. I'm sorry to be Debbie-downer here, but for a team that should be rebuilding through the draft, considering they have zero chance of competing next year, I'm pissed that Benning's continually pissing away draft picks and a good talented young player like McCann for an upgrade that may not be around in three or four years when they MIGHT be good again. |

McCann with a few years more development is gonna be a good NHL top six center, something the future Canucks don't have.
Acquiring Gudbranson doesn't change the fact the Canucks have TWO top six guys in their lineup as we speak....two - LeftCoaster
Horvat will prove he is top six this year, Baer will likely put up 20+ goals showing top 6 as well. Sutter...who knows. We will likely sign another top 6 player as well. There are better forwards than Defense in this UFA pool. |

Horvat, Sedin, Dubois, Sutter, grnalund > Mcaan at center. Mcann was unlikely to beat Bae, Virt, Boeser, Sedin or potentially Tckachuk on the wing. He was expendable |

If there was one thing I saw between San Jose's 10 natural centers and St. Louis's 8, its that its never worth it to try a winger at center. - Lindenis#1
You made it Dubois has been converted to center. He took the second most draws on his team |

And if you are going to tank, tank like a champ. Not like Buffalo which tanked outright and then failed in landing mcjesus followed by their GM throwing a hissy fit |

Not to sound snarky, but he's not a top four on a decent team. I think the canucks are still stuck with an owner pushing to try and make the playoffs rather than have some patience and rebuild. I know how bad an owner and GM can get, and this isn't at that level but I think this move is a mistake. - Isles_since_6
Not a top 4 Dman?
Didn't he lead all Panthers Dman in icetime both during the regular season and playoffs? |

What Vancouver did this past season is not what I call tanking. We had a $hitty team and more injuries in one season than I can ever remember on any team. |

If it was all about winning now, they would be trading for vets often which are always available and at a bargain. They are trading for young players who's entire prime is ahead of them.
You are starting to spin things off like the whiners.
- boonerbuck
See above, it just doesn't make sense to me considering the current state of the team. They don't have enough assets to start trading picks and prospects. They're not in a position to compete right now, that's what frustrates me. |

Yeah I dont hate the trade, the price for Top 4 under 25 is always going to be very high. I do like that JB is filling in the age gap from previously poor draft years. I just liked McCann and the draft scouting report he came with and was hoping to see how he panned out for the Canucks. Hopefully Gudbranson helps solidify things on the back end for the next 6-8 years, and Dubois/Tkachuk do well to help the loss of McCann - WhiteLie
Filling the age gap & a top 4 RHD is exactly the point of JB's motive |

Too bad the Canucks don't have him guaranteed in the system.
Or that it never hurts to have a lot of talented players who can play center
Or that you could have saved yourself these assets and signed Eric Gryba in UFA for basically the same level of performance |

Oh I wasn't talking about Vancouver tanking. I thought he mentioned PIT.
BTW, if Vancouver was tanking, that was a pretty sh*tty tankjob (no disrespect TOR) |

You think Mcann is better than Horvat I suspect there isn't a GM in the league that doesn't think Horvat is/ will be a top 6. But keep on keeping on |

Decent trade . McCann is pretty poor. Gudbransson is meh, but better. Draft picks hurt a bit but not too bad. Seems to be a strangish rebuild, getting older guys in trades. Never believed McCann was a core piece, just overrated. Now just trade Horvat and Virtanen for some established guys and you might get one more shot with the twins. - walshyleafsfan

Everyone praises Benning for being a great scout and they say that his strength is at the draft table. Why does everybody doubt his talent evaluation at the NHL level?
The think I notice about Benning is that if he sees a player he likes he does what he can to go and get them. Even if he has to overpay a little. I like that alot better then the previous 2 GM's that refused to make trades in the fear that they wouldn't get absolute full value for the asset, which in the long run hurt the team. |

He wasn't expendable to me because you have Henrik and Horvat as top six centers, and Henrik is going to retire shortly, so that leaves ONE guy to play center.
Grandlund is garbage, Sutter is a third liner, Dubois is 18 years old and might not be available at 5th.
Foresight! You need centers to win in this league. |

That list is comprised of piss-poor castoff players...it's nothing to be happy about considering what he gave up to acquire a bunch of middling player. - LeftCoaster
Did he really give up much though? Kesler got him Sbisa, Bonino (who is now Sutter) and McCann (who is now Gudbranson), Jensen got Etem (an upgrade), Shinkaruk for Granlund is undetermined so far, and a 2nd rounder in Kylington for Sven who is looking pretty good so far as a 23 year old with upside to improve.
Throw in a few mid to late round picks and thats what he gave up for all those guys. The steepest of which is this years 33rd, which from some reports isnt going to be much of a player as the draft drops off. Sure its possible he could strike gold in the 5th round, but the odds are against that so throwing them into deals to acquire actual guaranteed NHL players is a small price to pay IMO |

Great trade.
Give to get we replace McCann with Dubois or Tkachuk and our top looks a trillion times better then it did before. you cant steal good players from teams and who cares if we added an extra pick we needed a big nhl dman and we got one. Awesome move. - The_Kuze

Draft picks aside, it just seems like a redundant move.
The description and selling point behind Bennings characterization of EG is literally word for word the same thing he said about Sbisa lol.
I like EG, but Christ, how many Big, Mobile, offensively challenged Dman does this team need?
EG, Sbisa, Pedan and Tree will be lucky to combine for 30 points |
