Kind of.
Any player who's first pro season (AHL or NHL) was prior to 2015-16 is eligible.
Since Hutton's 14-15 games were on an ATO, which is the case with most college players, I'm pretty sure he's exempt.
Not sure on JV, since he went the CHL route. - Fosco

First pro season 2015-16 - golfingsince
Yes...
15-16 1st year pros exempt—prior to that eligible.
ATOs don't count as a pro season.
JV played games with Utica in 14-15. If it was on a pro contract, he's eligible—too lazy to look it up.
He's a pretty easy "protect," though, so I'm not worried. |

the point was that they whine and whine no matter what happens....we didnt sign this guy, we did sign this guy, we signed this guy and shouldve signed this other, hate the signing, hate the trade, hate the gm, this player sucks when we have him now he would have been our saviour now that we traded him.... THATS what Im referring to.
its like a bunch of whiny broads on their period here....this isnt how men are supposed to be. - SMBDragon
I dont think i have liked a single benning trade to be honest. I like his drafting. Im hoping the rumors of Talon coming from florida are true so he can handle trades and benning the draft.
I dont think benning has been doing a good job but i thinking its more ownership getting involved more so than what benning wants. |

Canucks win this trade. To find big strong stay at home defencemen that log over 20 minutes a game is very hard to find. To say he hit his potential at the age of 24 is an absolute joke. I've seen macaan play several dozen of live games....to be honest, the kid isn't special..and his attitude stinks.
But of course....your data shows the panthers win this deal |

2 players who have unceremonious exits out of Vancouver are unhappy a teammate they like is traded to Vancouver.
Shocking - DDM-Coga
Sorry, but I'm pretty sure Mitchell and Luongo care a lot more about what this trade will do to the competitiveness of the team they both play for now, as opposed to some kind of childish reaction to the fact that the trade happened to involve the Canucks. And it's pretty clear that they don't believe the Panthers are a better team for having made this trade.

Or they care more about their friend being off the team and aren't looking at it objectively. |

NHL players know it's a business and are traded all the time. Willie Mitchell has experienced leaving a team where he undoubtedly had a lot of friends and success. I seriously doubt it's about being friends with the guy. |

The analytic community believes that if you were to start a business with college grads you would simply hire all the students with the highest grades in order to have the most successful business. Back down here in reality we understand this not the case. |

Except that the number one tenant of 'analytics' is to look at all available data. This analogy makes absolutely no sense.
What you're suggesting is akin to building a team based plus/minus alone. |

False, college grads study more than just one subject in college.
For example, their major is Corsi, math is PDO, etc. |

Tanner, I know this piece is from September (so maybe this past season was a bad one?), but I am curious why the analytics community is bashing this trade heavily when people using it came to the conclusion that Gudbranson is a solid player who is asked to play defensive role but still manages to make his teammates better?

Perhaps some critical thinking outside the box is needed? |

Or maybe they're looking at it objectively from more than just a numbers perspective and wondering WTF the new team management is thinking with this trade. |

No, cause it's one of the worst trades in NHL history so anyone who is thinking it isn't just doesn't know what they're talking about. Jim Benning should have been fired ten minutes after the trade call. It's an objectively ridiculous trade. |

This trade has brought on a lot of different reactions.
1) It's a nothing trade.
2) Canucks won the deal.
3) Florida wins the deal.
4) Neither team wins, both players suck.
5) It's the worst trade in NHL history. |

I think FLA got great value for what Gudbranson is but I am not prepared to call it the worst trade - twiztedmike
In the last couple years I can think of a dozen trades that are much worse.
Seguin
Reinhart
Rielly Smith
Cam Talbot
Dougie Hamilton
Martin Erat
Vanek
to name a few... |
