I'm not so sure, I think it depends on what the goal is, bringing him back would really stabilize the D and help them win games.
Edler Tanev
Hutton Gudbranson
Hamhuis Tryamkin/Larsen - belcherbd
You guys are funny. All this complaining about no offence on the D and you want to bring in a 34 yr old that has 5 goals over 3 seasons

As somebody who grew up playing soccer, you play in whatever damn conditions are out there... I've even been out for games in Edmonton when it's been -15 to -20 out - lumlums
True & same here when i was a kid.

Tanev is excellent, as is Bo. Sedins will be retired before you will truly be competitive again, and Hansen is a decent player but has yet to hit 40 points in a season so can't really be considered "core" plus is now the wrong side of 30 (like Edler). What you need is to establish a timeline as to when you'll be successful (say five years) and build a core to match. IMO that core needs to comprise of two quality D, an above average NHL starting G, and at least three top quality forwards. At the minute you have Tanev, a great young G in Demko (plus a decent current guy in Markstrom), but a lack of true top NHL forwards (Bo is great, and Boeser looks to be solid - JV is a question mark as he seems to make some dumb decisions despite having talent). The biggest issue for me is the lack of prospects on D, especially as at that five year mark you won't likely have Hamhuis, Edler etc... - lumlums
And who will Toronto's core be in three years? |

I agree, it doesnt totally rule it out but now they have more reason to go lower on the contract offer that he might walk away. They save some face with Hamhuis in that they cant afford to pay him big money to be bottom pairing, but could offer him the opportunity if he really wants to stay and take considerably less |

Benning needs to look beyond the Sedins, again, my issue is he's losing me but trying to do both build and compete. - LeftCoaster
He has his marchng orders. Not 100% on his head. |

The playoffs haven't even ended and a chunk of the fan base is gone AWOL lol... Whether you like the trade or don't how about we wait to see happens before the draft. If Hansen or Sbisa are moved for picks, especially a 2nd does this make sense for us more? Or if we do end up with a lucic... Lucic, rodin, virtanen down the right side and we end up with picks back to grab a Benson or D man. I think this team could be a lot better off then it was.. Whether that happens or not time will tell but I'm willing to at least wait a month before a meltdown |

he does suck at being a top six center, he always has. He a good faceoff guy, he's a good penalty killer, he can insulate Horvat...but that doesn't mean he's a good option as your second line center.
If you can't see he's not a good option there you're out to lunch! He's a good third line center at best.
Logan Couture is a good second line center, Jeff Carter is a good second line center....Sutter is most certainly not! - LeftCoaster

Agreeππ» an Edler for example would need to be moved 1st or at the TDL.
Other D also in a logjam needing to clear waivers unless we go 13/8/2
Hammer would need to be open to the TDL also. |

Their forward core looks very good. Need to get some more young D and a goalie. That's why they're rebuilding but they look pretty good up front. |

Anyone with Hagelin & Kessel on the wing oughta shine.
Wonder what he wants next contract? ππ |

Says the Edmonton Oilers, until your prospects actually prove they're NHL players, youve got nothing but hope, which doesn't win you games. |

I would have killed for some hope during the milbury era.

I figured it was relevant for all the visitors
His scouting report is very Benning-like:
Nilsson is a throwback, heavy body-checking, defensive defenseman who draws the ire of his opponents with his sometimes borderline legal, antagonistic play. - WhiteLie
Sounds like AHL depth.

Same goes for Van. Oilers top guys did turn out pretty good though, never built around them. |

Forwards: Marner, Nylander, Matthews (likely). Maybe JvR, Kadri.
Defense: Rielly, TBD. Gardiner as a decent 2nd line guy.
Goalie: ?
It's a good start, especially given that those three forwards have been nothing short of excellent. |
