One reason #FlaPanthers traded Erik Gudbranson: told he turned down four year deal worth $4.5m per before taking one-year bridge at $3.5. |

I believe he's more offensively gifted and has just as good a chance at being a top six center as Horvat. He just doesn't have man-strength yet, Horvat does.
Look he's not small, he's bigger than Joe Sakic was, he just needs strength and I don't like trading away skilled centers when your organization has none.

Don't bother, Don has a really solid understanding of prospects and can back it all up. If you continue down this path you are going to look really silly |

Etem, Sbisa and granlund are not nhl players on a half decent team. - mauryballstein
I'm pretty sure all three of those guys made their teams out of training camp and ducks were more than just a decent team. While the Flames were considered a mediocre team when Granlund made the team. |

Lots of pretty charts and graphs. - Marwood
They say Gudbrason is nothing more than a taller version of Luke Schenn, who Benning could've had for free, and, McCann is one of only three Canucks who were positive possession players...meaning he had the puck more than he didn't.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it Jimmy Tanner says |

I think Horvat will have a better career and I see Mcann as a winger. So let's agree to disagree then |

Even so none are worth trading for my original point was that all of those players can be signed as UFAs and there positions filled that way.
Etem deal was different as jensen was needing a change. |

They then preceded to be scratched, sent down to the minors and were eventually traded.
At this point they are warm bodies with a bit of potential. |

Great! He's going to fit in just fine.
I think JBs putting a lot into character. From what I've read not one person has questioned the kids character or locker room presence. Good with the media and fans alike.
With an aging core being shifted out maybe JB wants team-first players populating the room, especially during the inevitable hard times ahead. - bloatedmosquito

I wana see horvat with guys who can score and that so he isnt forced to play as a shut down guy. Keep him with sven and another scoring winger. I want to see etem with sutter on the third line in a shut down role. |

High price to pay, but JB is filling the age gap left by the poor drafting between 2007-2011:
11th overall from 2007 (Sutter)
19th overall from 2008 (Sbisa)
3rd overall from 2010 (Gudbranson)
29th overall from 2010 (Etem)
13th overall from 2011 (Sven)
45th overall from 2011 (Granlund)
The Kesler trade alone has brought in 3 of these players, so while we debated JB's ability to trade, he has moved many pieces and the result is more promising than the original deal of Bonino/Sbisa/1st rounder IMO. The top end talent on the roster in a few years will have come from the draft - WhiteLie
Nobody likes seeing draft picks go the other way, however we are getting players that will be in the lineup on a full time basis.
apparently EG is a top 4 dman that plays the body on a regular basis and is a stay at home dman, JB said he can make a good first pass. Physical play was next to non existent in our top 6, Edler doesn't do it often enough, Tanev takes a hit to make a play but doesn't really dish it out, Hutton is in there a little, but none of these guys really look to take the body, are hard to play against. EG is supposed to be a character guy, might help in the room with Edler and Tanev appearing so laid back and Hutton being a clown, Tryamkin a bit of a clown but likely sitting back and taking it all in. Sbisa.
We are going from a core of players that were on the decline, not getting it done, thru some picks and moving some of those old players for some picks and players that are stepping into the lineup and some that are about to sink or swim with the opportunity.
a crazy amount of shakeup.
I can't argue with JB's approach, when he can get a player he covets, he is going to make the trade. some say he is overpaying, maybe, but he is making the trades and addressing areas that need improvement. Some recent trades for dmen could also be considered over payment or just the market price.
I still don't understand the Granlund trade beyond just trying to create some depth, don't see him in a 4th line role, wish he was more of a checker. but maybe he can still be effective with Gaunce and Dorsett or whoever. |

Some of the big comments coming from these posts over the year was
Top four Dmen don't grow on trees
We don't have the parts to trade for a top 4 Dman
Florida would never trade Gadbrundson
McCann needs to be sent down , he is not ready.
It doesn't matter what JB does. There are a group that hate everything he does and a group that love everything he does. .

I don't give a (frank) what Forsling is doing in the SEL. Come talk to me when he makes the NHL clearly that trade didn't workout but the rationale to make the move was there. |
