This is where people are divided, they see a team that finished 27th in the league, whereas us that followed them know the ridiculous amount of injuries to key players. The team is too good to bottom out without a fire sale, and that isnt going to work with the owners or bandwagon fanbase. They are trying to improve with younger players which is hard.
Without these moves, they finished 10th in the west and an old roster, or they make these trades and finish 10th with young players. Honestly, with a plug or two up front like an Eriksson or Bouwer on shorter contracts and it buys time for Boeser, the 5th pick and other young guys to develop. The team is too good to be bad, and not a true contender, its unfortunate but at least they are getting younger and can improve - WhiteLie
How is trading a 20 year old and two draft picks for a 24 year old and one worse draft pick getting younger? |

Except Sven plays left and boeser right. Hansen plays right.. Granlund will play center over Gaunce. And I think management is banking on Larsen being a puck mover on the 3rd pair - MaWLz
Details. This is a hell of a squad. |

Brutal trade. Terrible asset managment by Benning. He almost paid as much as Calgary did to acquire Hamilton. 3 teams minimum have way to many Dman, Anaheim, Columbus & Minnesota at least that need to address before the expansion draft.
Gubranson has played 309 NHL regular season games. Putting up 11 goals 32 assists for 43 points & is -49. He has 5 full seasons of NHL experience & played as Florida's #4 last season based on TOI/GP. Was the #1 penalty killing Dman for a team that had the 24th best penalty killing!
In my 35 years of running hockey pools & being a hockey freak this is the most inept management I have ever seen. Linden & Benning have set the Canucks back close to a decade.
I have already cancelled my 2 8K+ tickets for next season - striker777
I bet that looks great on a resume! |

JB seems to want to draft and find talent at a young age but then move them before they can either break out or bust; for a right now, you know what your getting type of player. If he would just allow the players to develop a little more then could maybe use those players to fill holes when Van is actually contending again and get better players. |

Well they have the picks so why not.
12 picks in one draft is overkill.
An excuse to call it a teardown is all when its a TANK.
Excuses hide lies enough said.
JB stated his plan & is executing it. Its nothing surprising either.
Least the man doesn't min e words & wants to win & I'll take that any day.
I say WD is going to be scrutinized heavily. - Nighthawk
Nah. Twelve picks is good. Lots of depth to trade out of.
Kinda like how you guys just traded the pick for gudbranson that you got in the hamhuis deal … |

We don't need draft picks.
You guys pick all the best prospects every year and can only have max 50 contracts. We'll get elite talent from your scraps. |

Wait & see if the assets amount to anything. So far nada.
As for licks he has drafted well. The picks moved have not proven anything yet.
This draft is not deep so no need to worry over it IMO |

15 points in 17 playoff games this year but, yeah, who wants that guy, right? - BINGO!
Playing on a third line with a speed demon like Hagelin and a proven 40 goal scorer in Kessel will get you those points. especially agains the opposing teams third d pairing. In Vancity he was stuck with the likes of Higgins, Hansen, Kassian and MAthias. |

Because the 24 year old would be on the NHL roster and the remaining parts wouldnt be, so they dont count
Canucks need everything aside from goaltending, but defense is a premium, they literally have no prospect to get even remotely excited about. So they had an asset up front which they felt could be moved and replaced in this year's draft so they diversified. I still wish McCann was around, I had high hopes for him this year, but the future of the Canucks defense is bleak and unpredictable, having a 24 year old in the lineup who will be around for a number of years is a positive thing |

They count. Everything counts. They aren't going to be winning anything this year, so why not keep your assets and build for two or three years down the road? |

But you didn't give up a 32 year old defenseman to get a 24 year old defenseman. You gave up a 20 year old forward and 2 draft picks. |

For me personally, it came down to trading the 4th rounder down to a 5th rounder. The timing of the trade. If it was at the trade deadline and a need for van at that time or next season when van really knows what they have for rookies and whether the guys they tried so hard to develop in the nhl this season haven't panned out. I am also the type of person to look at long term gain over short term satisfaction. |

I love that we can expect you and your negativity, only after Canucks have made a trade OR have signed a player.

At 24 he is definitely in the twilight years. Maybe they brought him in to mentor all the younger players. |
