Pierre LeBrun on the trade:
“I will say this – I notice how Canucks fans were unhappy. I wouldn’t be so quick to judge this. Gudbranson is a guy that a lot of people thought was going to be the next captain of the Florida Panthers. So that’s got to tell you something about him."
and
“And it was mentioned to me last night by a scout. I mean, look at the two bluelines that were playing in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final. How many big physical defensemen were on each team for St. Louis and San Jose. That’s how you’ve got to gut it out in big boy hockey in the Western Conference, and I think Gudbranson brings that to the Canucks."
and finally
“I know what the analytics community is saying, but not every single player has to be a puck possession superstar. You do need some physicality and some guys that can move people around."
but Ive like this trade since it happened tho |

When Brad Marchand slaps your top player and no one responds you may want to aquire Gudbrandson.
I hope Tryemkin learns his style |

When you got a guy like Gudbranson on the second D pairings, then the possibility of Tryamkin and Pedan on the third pairing against bigger teams, may make some players rethink alot of stuff, maybe even Ferland |

The kind of team we need, and the kind of team thatll make the games exciting to watch again.
Edit: Also would help entertainment if the power play getting rid of that horrid drop pass |

Some good size there, it will be fun to watch. That's all I expect next season. |

If Bo Sven Rodin Etem and JV improve it will be a fun team |

I think we have to look at what Linden and Benning are really saying. We do not have young players. We have young assets.
Youth for size. I am all for it.
Speed is killed by big d men.

They fell apart in the playoffs without him. I would think Fleury is more likely. |

Sure, and while the EG trade does address a need, the team was also second last in scoring.
That inherent issue/concern/weakness has yet to be addressed.
Unfortunately, outside of the valuable assets we just shipped to FLA, we don't really have anything of value left to ship out in a trade ( that won't prove detrimental to the teams long term success).
The UFA route cannot fix this alone.
Ultimately, I can't help but think that this EG trades turns the Canucks into a bottom 10 team as opposed to a bottom 5 one.

The back end is tougher, younger, hopefully a bit better. Scoring is another work in progress. |

TB has a pile of contracts forthcoming. Vasilevsky played well. |

If JB could somehow recoup that 2nd rounder, which won't be easy, it would go a long way to calm down all the "trade experts". |

It's only May 28th and a lot can happen still, but you're bang on here, the defense is better but the scoring is still bottom of the barrel.
Henrik and Daniel are the only true top six forwards on the team, that needs to change if they're wanting to compete. |

They're probably banking on Sutter being healthy, hoping Rodin contributes and plan on adding a FA signing.
If they can allow 25 less goals and score 25 more the team will be substantially better. |

Fluke injuries, not too concerned about Sutter work ethic and durability. |

It's more about the impact he has if healthy.
I know i've seen a bunch of posts where he's on the top line with the twins but that's awful deployment if you ask me. |

Lucic is already a Canuck. They are just waiting for the day. Bet he signs within the 1st 15 minutes of Free Agency ala Sami Salo to Tampa.
Why else has he not already signed?
So Eric Gudbranson and Lucic adds a lot of size right away. - Beatle_john
LA doesn't have the space. |

Sutter had 5 last year so they should get 15 more outta him, although they lost 22 goals with Vrbata and McCann leaving.
Some guys should score more but that's basing your offense on a lot of "hope". They need a top six winger in the worst way. |
