It's great they got a guy like him, it's not great that there's so many other holes to fill now and even more so in the future.

Demko for a top 10.

I loved the trade the minute it broke. When I saw the picks involved I knew it would be a huge freak out session in here.

I'm more concerned about losing McCann then a couple of picks. You have to give to get, but that hurts.

It is not hard to pick up or trade for a top 6 player that will score more than 12 goals. Same with McCann I hope we can replace those 9 goals .
- VANTEL

With the cap space replacing goals should not be all that difficult it's injuries on the players they are looking at which is the craps shoot. Stamkos is becoming injury-prone but will guarantee 40 goals during the reg. season. Or we could go with Lucic and Eriksson and between the two goal totals might get to over 50…

Lucic and Eriksson have both been pretty healthy over the past few seasons…Stamkos not so much...

So we haven't been building in the last two years? Do I really need to pull out the list again?
- VANTEL

Yes he has, Benning, but he missed out last year with no second round pick too, I'm just saying he needs to pick as many times as he can in the first three rounds.

He's doing the build & compete model...I get it.

The best draft he's had was the first one IMO, because he had a lot of picks that year. Jake 6th, Jared 24th, Demko 36th & Tryamkin 66th....that's a really nice draft because he had picks in the top three rounds.

Eriksson is probably the most logical FA, if he takes a 2 year deal.

I never really pencil in lineups, but projecting he signs here's what we have.

Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson- 65 goals
Virtanen-Horvat-Baertschi - 45 goals
Rodin-Sutter-Hansen - 45 goals
Dorsett-Granlund-Etem -20 goals

Vey.

That's a fairly reasonable projected 175 goals out of your top 12 forwards, whereas we scored 191 as a team last year. I think a case could be made that the top 3 lines could produce more. Regardless, you would need 41 more goals to achieve an increase of 25 goals.

- golfingsince

Why would Eriksson do that, he just had a 30 goal year, he's gonna ride that to a five year deal with someone. I'd be more than happy to sign him in Vancouver though.

Here are some totals from last year about D scoring. You can send in an AHL team to have better numbers.

Edler 6 goals
Bartowski 5 goals( gone)
Tanev 4 goals
Hamhuis 3 goals
Weber 0 goals
Hutton 1 goal
Sbisa 2 goals
Biega 0 goals

Forwards

Burrows 9 goals
Higgins 3 goals

This is why we finished 28 th last year.
Very easy to improve those numbers

I'd rather pay more short term.

However, I would give him 4 years because I do believe the twins will play another 2 years after their deal if they stay healthy.

Why? It's clear that McCann was not going to receive top 6 minutes here anytime soon which is what he needs to succeed. He's a softer centre that will most likely never be 200lbs and buried on the 4th line here in the west it was clear he was getting bounced around. His name has been in/out of trade rumours the past few months and obviously MNGT thinks Granlund is ready to go at 4LC. I'd be more concerned about losing the 2nd rd pick but I think can be recovered at slater time. It was steep you are correct but Gudbranson is exactly what this team needs right now. Not giving McCann 12min/game on the 4th line.

How? Gudbranson isn't going to score. Edler will get around 10, Tanev has a career high of 6.

Edler will probably score more than 6

Tryamkin will probably score more than 1 or 0 that Weber had.

Tanev is working with a shooting coach this summer and is more aware that he needs to chip in more.

Hutton had one goal last year , let's hope he can find it more.

Gudbrandson will probably end up with 4

Larsen or whoever grabs the last spot. Let's hope our PMD can replace Bartowskis 5 goals

There is nothing clear about a 19 year old centre's game in the NHL. Yes, he needs to add weight but he has great offensive instinct and a laser of a shot. In junior, he was also very good defensively but that takes awhile to translate to the NHL (Bo -30).

I find it laughable that people think the 2nd round pick has more value than the 19 year old that has already shown he can play in the league.

The Canucks allowed 243 goals against last year, to me that's a bigger issue than scoring, 243 is 7th worst in the league, that has to significantly decrease or they're up the creek no matter how much they score!

Calgary - scored 231 allowed 260....finished two points ahead of the Canucks.

C'mon man, even in 2 years they'll be better than half our roster. Ideally they'd take on a secondary role.

That's right, I stand corrected....that IMO was a good trade as it accelerated that pick into an instant NHL'er. A risk that paid off.
