Weren't they 2nd last in goals for?

Both need serious help.

- golfingsince

Yes they were, but as I said, almost all the playoff teams allowed only 200 to 215'ish goals against, Detroit & Dallas being the exception's I think? But Dallas scored 267 goals.

So it isn't good asset management to sign a sure thing hopefully that is with us for 10 years for a project player that had issues and was gonna sleep with demco's girlfriend and a maybe NHLer draft pick?

If we sign stamkos and Lucic and resign Hamhuis for cheap, this could be a cup contending team.

You aren't factoring improvement from all of our players

Baertchi will score 25, Horvat 30, Virtanen, 20, Etem 15, Rodin 20, Hutton 10, Sutter and Hansen will continue being the 20 goalscorers they are. Boeser will be here the following year and score 25-30 as a rookie, PLD/Tkachuk another 15-20. Demko will also be here soon so we don't need to worry about goals against.

McCann was lucky to score 9 and when you see how all of our other players will improve his contributions are not needed.

His second round pick last year was Baertschi who scored 15 goals

How? Gudbranson isn't going to score. Edler will get around 10, Tanev has a career high of 6.
- LeftCoaster

I think a shooting coach will help Tanev improve that area by a few goals. 9-11 goals for Tanev IMO. not ALOT, but a few extra goals can win a few extra games. Just like preventing a few extra goals can win a few extra games. Gudbranson will prevent a few extra goals for us. He will also likely reduce our 3rd period breakdowns with his style of play.

There is nothing clear about a 19 year old centre's game in the NHL. Yes, he needs to add weight but he has great offensive instinct and a laser of a shot. In junior, he was also very good defensively but that takes awhile to translate to the NHL (Bo -30).

I find it laughable that people think the 2nd round pick has more value than the 19 year old that has already shown he can play in the league.

- golfingsince

It is not that we find the 2nd more valuable(at least not me). I just feel that McCann was the price for Gudbranson and the picks needed to even/sweet then deal to get him over EDM.

At this level a coach isn't going to make a goal scoring defence man.

And how long until EDM sweetend the deal? Yak+2nd+3rd would have been more likely to get him than McCann+2nd+4th. I think the real reason for Yak was salary. McCann won't be paid as soon and they have some BIG signings coming.

If players don't improve somewhat, or at least get a bit better, why employ shooting coaches or goalie coaches or skating coaches?
