Tough spot to start with, how do you move on from status quo if you are afraid to lose a trade or make one?
I don't like the idea of pi$$ing away picks, but you look at a club like Edmonton that had the talent in the forward group, they were afraid to lose a trade and never traded for a dman.
Time will tell if JB's moves are in the right direction, if he gave up too much.
Fingers crossed he doesn't go crazy term on older ufa's. - hillbillydeluxe
Many teams are afraid to give something up for a defencman. They are a hot commodity. |

It will for sure and I think the picks traded are hard to swallow but the team is no doubt much different and much younger. I think one more draft after this year and we see a constant revolving door of prospects into the line up. Starts with Boeser, Demko and our 5th this year. I think it's harder to predict in other rounds but anything could happen in later rounds for Benning to prove his eye for talent further. Let's hope we find Some late round gems in next two years and all is good. Let's not forget what we have in Olsen and Bresbois. Here's hoping. - WhatTheNuck
Looking back I think Benning should've started selling veteran players for picks and prospects when he got here, but I'm sure the Aquilini family wanted none of that.
His first year he could've drafted: Virtanen, McCann, Demko, Roland McKowen, Tryamkin & Mike Amadio in the first three rounds....that's an incredible draft!
Year two he could've drafted Boeser, Baertschi, Brisebois & Parker Witherspoon in the first three rounds.
That's an incredible prospect pool in two years! Those two dmen, McKowen & Wotherspoon and center in Amadio would really take the bite outta losing McCann. |

Isn't getting Stecher and Gartieg like getting a second round pick? |

I 100 percent agree with all of Vantel last few.posts.
Benning is doing what we all wanted. Younger bigger stronger.
Gudbranson in Dubois in Lucic in (don't like him but the dude is a difference maker)
That's a lot of size and skill.
He's doing a great job |

Yes exactly...except using those picks to draft prospects not trade them for Vey and Sutter. It's easier to say now though because I'm using hindsight, I get what he was trying to do, it just isn't working. |

Bonino & 54th pick > Sutter.....considering the Canucks are a non playoffs team. That's the way I see it. |

You could see he was nothing more than a good third line center before he played those 20 games. |

the sky is not falling, Benning IS rebuilding the team, which is great, I'd just like to see him draft more. Because that's where is true genius lies. |
