the sky is not falling, Benning IS rebuilding the team, which is great, I'd just like to see him draft more. Because that's where is true genius lies. - LeftCoaster
I think Dubois Gudbrandson Gartieg Strecher is a good start to the summer |

Didn't we pick up Pittsburgs 3 rd round pick ?
Sutter is better than Bonino period - VANTEL
We picked up our own third round pick which Pittsburgh acquired from the NYI's. And yes Sutter is better than Boner, no question, but he hardly makes the Canucks team as a whole largely better.
I say they go from a 72 point team to a mid 80's point team, still not a playoff team. |

Then you should be happy with another top 10 pick |

Sutter is way better than Bonino not even close.
Benning is developing a gritty two way team. I almost want him to draft tkachuk more than Dubois but I'm happy with either.
If he could somehow get the 6th as well (I know pipe dream) and pick juolevi as well I will jist call h jebus |

They don't have Dubois yet and those two other kids will never make the NHL IMO, just AHL fodder.
He's got a lot of building to do in the next two years before the Sedin contracts expire. I hope they draft Dubois and he's everything Benning hopes as a first line center, if not, big trouble in little China if Henrik retires. |

I will be, absolutely, if he doesn't trade it away |

Bonino & 54th pick > Sutter.....considering the Canucks are a non playoffs team. That's the way I see it. - LeftCoaster
To be perfectly honest I wasn't into either player. To me that trade says Jim wanted Sutter for some reason and went out and got him. I don't really get that one either. |

I want your crystal ball. You don't see Strecher or Gartieg as NHLers but you see our undersized second round pick as a NHLer . |

Who's that? Those kids weren't drafted for a reason Vantel, their odds of making a contribution at the NHL level are extremely low. |

Gillis was the one who gave away first rounders not Benning |

They were top players in the NCAA just like Tanev was not drafted |

Manny was a third liner behind Kesler and Henrik in their prime, Sutter being Manny is completely useless when Henrik is 36 and we don't have a second line center
But I like this debate as it's keeping me busy |

For every Tanev I can name hundreds of kids that signed contracts and never got a sniff. The odds are really low, I'm just being realistic. |

I think Sutter is a third liner too it is not his fault the Canucks are still trying to fix Gillis's mistakes and there is no one ahead of him at this point |

And for every second rounder picked there are hundreds of other second rounders that never get a sniff of NHL . Who was Canucks last second round pick that is on the team or in the NHL

Probabilities for second round picks is 50% I believe, those are DAMN good odds!
You're asking me about Gillis and Nonis's drafting....I think you already know the answer to that!
Edit: I went and looked...
"So, this is reasonably what we would expect. 80% of first-round picks, 44% of second-round picks, and 30% of third-round picks will become low-level (or better) NHL players. Scott Cullen has done great work looking at specific pick values." |

I wouldn't think trading a couple of 2nd round picks would put Lefty over the edge, but I also didn't think Nucker would become Phucker. |

From 2000 to 2009 it is 44%
From 1994-1999 it was 25%
How many second round players drafted by the Canucks are playing currently in the NHL. Gillis left Benning a sh!tshow that had to be wiped up. |
