Hey guys,

Though I'm back in Canada, I'm still away from home, in the world of sketchy Wifi.

So - thanks for your patience. The new blog is now up!

Canucks 2nd round picks

2002 Kirill Koltsov, Denis Grot
2003 Marc-Andre Bernier
2005 Mason Raymond
2007 Taylor Ellington
2008 Yann Sauve
2009 Anton Rodin
2012 Alexandre Mallet
2014 Thatcher Demko

With that history, getting a player like Sutter and Gudbranson for throwing in a 2nd seems worth it to me.

- A_SteamingLombardi

That's a ridiculous way to look at it, just because past managers couldn't pick to save their lives we should just trade our picks away? We might as well trade all our picks away with that train of thought because historically the team has never drafted that well.

Who's that? Those kids weren't drafted for a reason Vantel, their odds of making a contribution at the NHL level are extremely low.

Tanev wasn't drafted *drops mic*

When Sutter and Edler got hurt the team folded. But yes Henrik was hurting after Christmas too.

Sbisa is not a good player, probably helped having him out and Hamhuis was just awful the first 40 games, did they really miss him?

- LeftCoaster

Maybe the team was depressed seeing themselves go from playoffs to b ottoman of the league in one season.

We've been over this, I could name 100 kids who were never drafted but signed contracts and never played a game for every Tanev you can name.

Try again and pick up your poop.

From 2000 to 2009 it is 44%
From 1994-1999 it was 25%

How many second round players drafted by the Canucks are playing currently in the NHL. Gillis left Benning a sh!tshow that had to be wiped up.

- VANTEL

How many 2nd round picks have even had since 2000?

Not many. Between Gillis, Nonis and Benning i'd say 3/4 have been traded.

When you finish third last because two guys got hurt, your not in a very good position.

That said, I do believe Benning has instructions from ownership to compete now or else!!

- LeftCoaster

I usually like your objectivity, and could always count on measured sanity responses or posts, but surely you're being a phucker on purpose here...two guys got hurt..

Edler................30 games missing
Hamhuis............25 games
Tanev...............14 games
Sutter...............52 games
Hansen.............16 games
H. Sedin.............8 games
Markstrom..........15 games
Sbsia.................26 games

I could go on and on with a pile of other players that have less of an impact like
Vrbata, Higgins, Dorsett, Prust.

Yup, two guys, bottom three placement...

I know you won't agree, but I'll go out on a limb and say if the team stays healthy they're on the cusp of making the playoffs.

For every Tanev I can name hundreds of kids that signed contracts and never got a sniff. The odds are really low, I'm just being realistic.

You aren't factoring improvement from all of our players

Baertchi will score 25, Horvat 30, Virtanen, 20, Etem 15, Rodin 20, Hutton 10, Sutter and Hansen will continue being the 20 goalscorers they are. Boeser will be here the following year and score 25-30 as a rookie, PLD/Tkachuk another 15-20. Demko will also be here soon so we don't need to worry about goals against.

McCann was lucky to score 9 and when you see how all of our other players will improve his contributions are not needed.

It tells me McCann was worth more than Yak.

Kaptann already traded Tanev for Yak

I've seen several post suggesting that they didn't care about losing McCann, but the 2nd round pick hurts. I'd much rather have given up two 2nds and kept McCann.
- golfingsince

So would every poster except Lefty...I think people on here would be ok w a straight player swap but then their feelings get all Subbaned when we had to give up a pick

It's funny, but it's really not

Outside of the Kesler trade, which he gets a pass on, and the Baertschi trade, which was a gamble that worked, he really hasn't made a trade that significantly improved the team and he's paid a lot during those transactions.

Bonino & 54th pick > Sutter.....considering the Canucks are a non playoffs team. That's the way I see it.
- LeftCoaster

Whoever gets the best player wins trade. (frank) the swap of picks. He has held onto our firsts and that's what I care about. Benning can find better kids in the 5th round than Gillis or Nonis could in the first
