http://espn.go.com/espn/f...-great-analytics-rankings
Most of the successful teams all use analytics and many of them heavily rely on them according to this article.
Just because the team that started the trend hasn't won yet doesn't mean the other teams using it haven't found it useful. Didn't the Red Sox go hard after Beane and have since followed since then? - belcherbd
Sorry my point was more that the teams who win, win because the money they spend more times then not.. With a soft cap you can use analytics all you want but the top teams year after will continue to be the ones who spend because they have the best players they spent money on.. Boston can say they use it all they want but they just gave David price 200+ million because he's a great pitcher... they gave Sandoval 75mill and hes been nothing but a playoff performer in his career.. KC might be the new case though but it was through years of drafting and they'll slowly lose what they have unless they spend |

I don't know what that has to do with anything. FA is a Vancouverite to the core.
Having said that, I do agree with the general tone of your post. FA seems to run the team as a revenue generator rather than a billionaire's toy. You can't fault him for that. Gagliardi was my first choice but we lost that lottery as well.
Just seems that FA is a businessman first and a hockey fan second. Either that, or he's a typical canucks' fan: tempermental and doesn't have the patience for a rebuild. - RealityChecker
I believe if Galardi had won the team Wed be in an accepted rebuild right now.. He just seems like way more of a hockey fan. Fransisco runs the team like a new development and in the end all that matters to him are dollars and cents |

yup.
the way FA got the team is all you need to know about him. he's a businessman who is not a team player. and if you hear the stories downtown, the methods he used to get the team are not out of line with his general (business) character.
losing out on gagliardi is just another loss for the franchise.... sigh.... |

I know it's a different sport, but the whole "Mnoeyball", Billy Beane thing. The Oakland A's have won jack sh!t with all that data. - fiveandagame
They may not have won...but making the playoffs that one season (and almost winning) with by far the LOWEST payroll in baseball was astounding...that stats/analytics have to count for some of that. |

Regardless if FA is sticking his nose in or not, Benning has been able to make the roster significantly younger. If this is all about the McCann for Gudbrandson trade, Gudbrandson is only 24 years old. He is right in same wheelhouse as Horvat, Virtanen, Baertschi, Hutton, Tryminkin etc. The 2nd Rounder hurts but its not its not like Gudbrasnon is 35 years old. I think Benning see's him as piece of the new core. |

I think they want playoff wins more than playoff dollars. I think a healthy team this year would have made the playoffs. Our biggest problem in years past is we would make the playoffs but we're not tough enough. He is changing that. This is about wining - VANTEL

Were analytics behind the Seguin deal? - golfingsince
Seguin's father, 48, said his unmarried son likes to socialize with people his age.
“Who do you turn to when your teammates are older and you are by yourself and your family is in Toronto?” his father told the Star.
“With all respect to David Krejci or Milan Lucic, when the game is over, they go out with their family and hang out in the back of a restaurant. They’re nice and quiet and no one tweets about it. Tyler looks to his friends for comfort and where do his friends go? They go to the local bar.”

Moneyball will only ever work for those broke teams.. Boston, Yankees, dodgers and so on will always just buy the best player regardless.. |

That makes him just about the only hockey player ever to go to a bar after a game. The Hawks should have traded Patrick Kane. |
