If he can trade Hansen to the Capitals, Blues, Kings, Ducks or whomever for a 1st then I'm totally fine with giving up the 2nd round pick to get Gudbranson.
I agree that if we get Dubois, there is no need for McCann. Not sure why this trade couldn't wait until we found that out, but I guess he was pressured into it. - Scooby_Doo

Huge relief if he leaves the Kings. I always hated when that guy scored on us. |

I suspect he wanted to avoid a bidding war with Edmonton, Toronto etc. price could have been worse |

Got to fire Benning and put someone who knows what they are doing in charge. Vancouver is a beautiful city. They just need much better managment. And these bandaid moves don't work. I've been through them being a leaf fan the past decade. - Santo_44
We find you concern very moving. Thank you. |

So I just listened to what Jim had to say on hockey central. I like his reasoning and his thoughts on going forward. If Dubois is available at 5 this was a good move. It sounded to me like he wasn't done. He knows he gave up a lot but I am of the same opinion on this one. Big top 4 defencman that can play a ton of minutes at only 24 years old don't come cheap and are rarely available. This was a good move. My biggest complaint was the defence. I really don't think that this year is that deep a draft where I worry about a second pick. - thundachunk
I'm thinking the same way. Benning interviewed Gud for the 2010 draft but they took Seguin. I think he's had an eye on him for some time. |

I think the trade was a good one. Sure, a bit of an over payment, but a very necessary one. The backend was absolutely horrible and needed a new addition. I think Benning makes another move or two if he is able to for picks or prospects.
I still dont understand why everyone rides Benning as hard as they do. Gillis literally (frank)ed us bent over and left us to burn. Benning has barely repaired that damage so far and I still think one more draft year and season will be a better judge of how things pan out.
Next years focus will be coaching for sure. Was Willie's first year here a fluke? Good coaches should be able to find ways to win even with injuries, but was there enough depth? I think a lot of people are worried about the future as they should be, but I still feel that Linden, Benning, and Willie all feel the same way. The sample size of their performances thusfar arent enough imo. The one thing I have enjoyed so far is that fact that each year has changed the team for better or worse. They are at least making an effort to stock the cupboards for as cheap as possible while maintaining a competitive environment in both Utica and Vancouver. |

makes it 51 more than Toronto has because they still believe that Buffalo will move their franchise there. Lol |

I agree, I think that this was sprung on him and he needed to act quick if he wanted to make it work.
Although I did read on HF, no proof though, that Edm and Toronto were rumoured to be involved with apparently Edm offering Yak and the 32nd.
Price is definitely reasonable, I'm still not sure that it is the best move going forward though. |

I absolutely think JB is trying to move Hansen. Whether he does or not is yet to be seen. |

Again depends what the goal is, I think it is the playoffs? so I agree not worth moving Hansen for a lesser deal. |

Disagree. A player signed at a reasonable cap hit (2.5m) for 3 more years that can play up and down your lineup. Score 20 goals. Kill penalties. Forecheck etc...
He is EXACTLY what a team looking to get over the hump and make a Cup run is looking for. They most definitely will pay a 1st for him. |

I think it was done quickly so that Edmonton wouldn't get wind of it because they could have, obviously, out bid the Canucks. |

Maybe but I think usually those players don't fetch a 1st.
McGinn got a 3rd.
Versteeg a prospect and a 5th
Hudler a 2nd and a 4th
Purcell a 3rd
Matthias a 4th
Ladd plus scraps did get Dano and a 1st though. |

But if you can replace those picks with Hansen and pick up somebody in free agency to replace Hansen's spot why wouldn't you |

Trading for and signing all these D-men must be destroying Subban's feelings. |

I don't think it is that easy to replace what Hansen brings at 2.5 not to mention the benefits of chemistry and familiarity with the systems. |
