We know either one of Tkachuk or Dubois will be available whether or not Edmonton trades their top pick. If it is Dubois available, JB takes him. If it is Tkachuck, JB takes Juolevi. My guess anyway.

The other scenario would be whether Trader Jim can get another pick in the top 20 by moving someone like Jannik Hansen or a combo thereof. If he does, then he definitely takes a forward (Dubois/Tkachuk) at 5 and a d-prospect with the extra pick.

It's Dubois or Tkachuk. There is no other option unless we trade down

The problem with JB taking a defence man is there is no consensus top D in this draft. Even in here none of us can agree who is the best defence man. What we can agree on is we need a future top 6 center. I think we know who that is. There are 2 of them though. #BPAalltheway.
- thundachunk

JB is going to decide by his own list, he isn't worried about consensus as much as what his own eyes have told him, as well as team scouts.

And yes, of course we need a future first or second line centre, maybe even more so than a #1 dman. But I still wonder what JB is thinking. Does he think the dman he has his eyes on has a better chance of being a top pairing more than the centreman available appears to be first line centre?

we all might agree on who JB should pick, but watch JB do something surprising... I'd love to see his list.

I'm probably the minority but I'm saying no to Brouwer. 40 pt player on 3 very good offensive teams (Chicago, Washinton. St. Louis) After his playoff performernce he is going to paid like a 1st liner. He is going to be very overpaid by some team to be a gloried 3rd liner.

I would rather spend the money on Eriksson or even Lucic as they are proven top 6 forwards

- fiveandagame

Stay away from Brouwer. Don't overpay for him He's doing the same thing Clutterbuck, Boyle, February, Grabovski etc. You can fill the bottom 6 with good youth

According to JB he has a D in his top 6. I am thinking he takes dubois if avail - if not then trade down or takes the d. joulevi or whatever his name is.

If you watch the Q as much as some do, it's a bit of a warning. Not to say they are bad players, but they are certainly (for the most part) not as developed as the O or dare I say the W

What do you base this on? Dubois is a more versatile player seeing that he can play centre and wing and his stats as just as impressive if not more so than Tkachuk
- Zogg

Dubois "won" the award for top available prospect over Tkachuk as he finished the season rated higher. I know the hype is around Tkachuk, and I have seen zero of Dubois, but I am really interested to see what JB does. He definitely is not influenced by anyone, he makes moves and gets players he likes which makes him all the more fun to follow on draft day

Brouwer : " My dad was a huge #Canucks fan, Mark Messier was a big influence in my hockey career, I watched him a lot in Vancouver."

I don't see him signing here.

They did. They also gave them a good run in the round robin stage. Thought Perron, Dzierkals, Marchand and Meier looked good

I thought they were playing a pretty good team game, but the quality of the players on London were too good. RN was definitely holding on well while London's top guys were playing pretty selfishly (lots of one man rushes), eventually they broke through. Entertaining game though

He has a D at 6...so somewhat irrelevant. What I'm saying is the only way he doesn't pick Dubois or Tkachuk is if he trades down to get the next best center.

I always like to discount players from the Q when it comes to draft position because they play in the Q but that's not always the case. Q is good for imports, goaltenders, high skill pests. OHL usually has the best scorers and the WHL seems to come up with most stay at home D and 2 way forwards.

OMG, Drouin was a top 5 pick from the Q!!

Do you think Marner will be better than him?

London is kind of in a league of it's own. They pretty much buy players every year.

No. I don't think Marner will amount to much. Too small. Most likely a wasted pick. Drouin is golden though.

different draft years. it's real hard to say. if you take the top 3 from last year and the top 3 projected from this year and put them together what would the order look like?
McDavid, Eichel, strome, puljujravi, laine, matthews. <---no that's not mine.

when I watched tape of both players tkachuk was my fav....nothing wrong w dubois although I did notice it didnt show many goals....but someone had great stats on him.

As for other posters comments of JB top 6 having D....we are picking 5, so IMO those spots are locked up by skilled forwards. Id also say that so far in 2016 JB has done a great job w additions to the D, not seeing many spots open on D wo trade and we'd be better off with this #5 pick with a franchise forward. I do not see Joulevi being the guy for our D here. Taking him at 5 would be a mistake.

He has watched Dubois closely, I suspect he takes him IF all picks 1-4 go as expected. IF oilers take Joulevi instead then we take tkachuk.

hopefully we can acquire the #4 spot (or 6 spot if oilers take a D) and get both forwards. That'd be a future investment worth doing. Or perhaps get the habs #9 to take sergachev after we use our #5 on a forward.
