my take is that no, it's not a diaster, but yes it's an overpayment, and the well-run teams in the league typically walk away from those contracts and replace those guys through their farm system. the stupid teams in the league sign those contracts, like Montreal with Lars Eller. or Montreal with David Desharnais. or Montreal with about 60% of its roster. |

Yeah, he's probably the most effective 4th liner in the league and can play on 3rd if needs be. Basically a better Brandon Prust. But they overrelied on Tavares during the playoffs and now they basically chose their good 4th liner over Frans Nielson, who they won't be able to sign now. Bad asset management IMO.
