For the Oilers I dont think that's a better option at all than an offer sheet.

A good option would be revisiting that Yak and Pou trade for Vatanen - prismo
Then sign Perron in FA as a replacement for Pouliot. He is younger too.

Screw Perron... he had a bad attitude and wouldn't want to come back here. |

It’s cam Atkinson. You keep jones over Atkinson 11 times out of 10. C’mon man.
Put JP in the ahl then. Not every 18 year-old needs to be in the nhl to start…especially if it costs you seth jones. This is just common sense.
You act as if edm is the only team that can offer sheet him. I suspect there will be lineup of teams with offer sheets if all it costs is a 1st and 3rd … which is why it’ll cost way more than that. - Tumbleweed
Man you seriously need to work on reading comprehension. The exact post you quoted from Hendo said explicitly "the Oil or ANYBODY ELSE"
All caps weren't clear enough for you apparently. |

He had a problem with ex-management and some ex-players, but that's in the past now.
I'm sure it would be worth a try, especially if we do end up trading Pouliot.
Edit: He was playing his best hockey as an Oiler, so that might encourage him to brace the cooper and blue silks once more. |

What happens if you offer sheet someone and owe multiple firsts but you have until 2018 to give them. Then you go ahead and make trades to acquire 2018 1sts from some cup contenders.
Are you allowed to use the 27th and 28th OA picks you acquired as offer sheet compensation or does it have to be your own pick? |

Has to be your own. And you can't give multiple offer sheets that would require the same round pick. |

At this stage yak is as big of a negative asset as Sbisa |

Gotcha, thanks.
Otherwise offer sheets would be too easy, GMs could just ensure every pick they had to give were as late in the round as possible.
I guess in reality the incentive for bottom feeders to offer-sheet are much lower than for cup contenders. |

Maybe if Yak was getting paid Sbisa money and wasn't still a young RFA with lots of cost-controlled years left this statement would have some truth.
Unfortunately you forgot all of that, and I wouldn't expect any better after reading some of your previous posts.
Sooo, Gudbranson and Sbisa for Nuge and Yak?
Yeah, (frank) off. |

Keep telling yourself Gudbranson is worth that... - RonPielep
Past tense, Florida turned down yak and 32ov.
I did have a in there but you were to dense to notice it seems.
If you don't think Gudbranson and a 2nd was worth RNH, what do you think a young RHD is worth?
What did Reinhart cost? Because LHD are cheaper then RHD.
And EG >GR ..... at least for now.
Oh and again please tell me the RHD depth on this team? Please |

Gudbranson and a 2nd worth rnh??!!
The guy is a mediocre 3rd pairing defender. Both by the eye and proven statistically
You need to just stop talking oilers. It's embarrassing. For you and those of us who have to read your thoughts
And link to Florida turning down said trade ? Or is making stuff up and then using it as fact a credible way of debating in your mind ? |

Oh man, Gudbranson is a mess. Might as well go for Jake (frank)ing Gardiner if what you need is an overpaid guy who skates like a glacier and handles the puck like it's a goddamn grenade - lumlums

His metrics are brutal. A total mess at both ends of the ice.
"But he's physical character guy!!"
Cool, we'll throw in a middling pick for all that valuable character |

You missed the winky face didn't you, but here goes.......
So, here is some plain information for you to think about
Maybe the price paid was to steep, maybe not, I don't know and only time will tell.
Former 24th OV and the 33rd OV were traded for EG
Reportedly Yak and 32nd was rejected for EG
So if the canucks overpaid it was by the margin that they outbid the oilers by.
32OV>33OV but not by much, maybe the exchange of 5th and 4th round picks made up that difference.
McCann must have been viewed as better then Yak, the more you think the canucks overpaid then the more Yak was viewed as a worse prospect then McCann. If the Nucks overpaid by a 2nd then Yak + 2nd =McCann, again this is following your logic of overpayment, if the Nucks overpaid by McCann the Yak had negative value on the trade offer. I don't buy this logic but you seem to believe there was a vast overpayment.
So if one McCann is worth more then one Yakupov then does that make one RNH worth one McCann + 2 x 2nds?
I think that you could argue that that would be close to value.
So if the Oil had offered RNH for Guddy and a 2nd round pick, would that have been fair market value? I think it would be close, maybe not quite there which is possibly why it didn't get done.
A bigger problem is the lack of balance on D, the Oilers have a future left handed Guddy in Nurse, Klefbom looks good and Sekeris on the Left side and a glaring black hole on the right side. they will need to overpay to get a young RHD like jones.
Jones > Gudbranson, but by how much?
The Preds didn't value RNH as much as Johanson when they traded Jones away. If RNH wasn't good enough to land Jones, and is not viewed as a future 1LC by other francises then the oilers are again in danger of over valuing assets as they decline, just as they have with Yak.
They really need to poop or get off the pot.
Yakupov isn't going to resign in Edmonton for less then Sbisa money, he will probably go back to the KHL when his contract is up which means he is a declining asset that has a current cap hit of 3.5m.

A) Seth Jones may not want to sign in Edmonton
B) Like many pointed out, why would Jones want to go to an underachieving team?
Gotta give up value to get it |

I dunno man... he's got all the tools he needs apart from the brain. Just allow him to go out there and not think too much for himself and you have a reasonable second pairing guy.
Offer what you want |
