As a pack a day smoker, your physiological age is around 70 though. Plus compounded by how much HB stresses you out. |

He's unequivocally worse than klefbom and sekera. And Both have proven they can play their offside better than he plays his natural side.
And by the numbers- the same can be said for Davidson
So just assuming for a second the oilers don't try to acquire much much better right handers than him (which is far from a shallow group. and pursuing said players is at worst likely- at best closer to foregone) we're still better off playing said defenders on the right side and playing other natural lefties on the left.
Even your handed depth argument is without much validity - HB77

I've only read the last few pages but..
Why would you guys think it's a good idea to give up Nolan Patrick as well as some solid picks in order to sign Jones?

As a CBJ fan, many people here have feared someone would offer sheet Seth Jones, and it is hard to see a downside to someone like Edmonton doing it. But there are things the CBJ can do to collect the $$$ necessary to sign him, like buying out Jared Boll, putting David Clarkson on LTIR (he only played seventeen games last year, and he sure seems like damaged goods at this point), maybe even keeping Puljujärvi in the AHL or in Europe if necessary.
The question Edmonton has to ask is if they think he is a top pairing defenseman for the next eight to ten years and is he worth the risk of paying big money long-term. There may well be free agents out there with less risk.
But all in all the idea of an offer sheet is something I don; tlike as a CBJ fan, but from the Oilers point of view it seems like a low risk move. - jkumpire
very, very nice response. CBJ fans pretty high on my don't-hate list of NHL fan bases. |

It doesn't matter, dippoop, just because we need a RHD doesn't mean we should sell RNH for a mediocre one. Will you get over your obsession already? Just be Happy you're GM was willing to over pay for the (frank)ing guy. |

My first post had lots of winky faces and was saying it your gonna offer sheet Jones you should have gone in deeper for EG.
I know Jones is better then EG that's not my point.
The point is if you start offer sheeting teams you will be hammered with them every year when a rfa comes up.
Deal from strength to address weakness.
EG is not all that and a bag o'chips but he would have given you depth on the right side. |

You missed my first facetious post about trading RNH for EG and a 2nd....
double thread battle
Edit, you should throw that offer out in the Canucks thread
JB might even throw in a 5th |

You missed the winky face didn't you, but here goes.......
So, here is some plain information for you to think about
Maybe the price paid was to steep, maybe not, I don't know and only time will tell.
Former 24th OV and the 33rd OV were traded for EG
Reportedly Yak and 32nd was rejected for EG
So if the canucks overpaid it was by the margin that they outbid the oilers by.
32OV>33OV but not by much, maybe the exchange of 5th and 4th round picks made up that difference.
McCann must have been viewed as better then Yak, the more you think the canucks overpaid then the more Yak was viewed as a worse prospect then McCann. If the Nucks overpaid by a 2nd then Yak + 2nd =McCann, again this is following your logic of overpayment, if the Nucks overpaid by McCann the Yak had negative value on the trade offer. I don't buy this logic but you seem to believe there was a vast overpayment.
So if one McCann is worth more then one Yakupov then does that make one RNH worth one McCann + 2 x 2nds?
I think that you could argue that that would be close to value.
So if the Oil had offered RNH for Guddy and a 2nd round pick, would that have been fair market value? I think it would be close, maybe not quite there which is possibly why it didn't get done.
A bigger problem is the lack of balance on D, the Oilers have a future left handed Guddy in Nurse, Klefbom looks good and Sekeris on the Left side and a glaring black hole on the right side. they will need to overpay to get a young RHD like jones.
Jones > Gudbranson, but by how much?
The Preds didn't value RNH as much as Johanson when they traded Jones away. If RNH wasn't good enough to land Jones, and is not viewed as a future 1LC by other francises then the oilers are again in danger of over valuing assets as they decline, just as they have with Yak.
They really need to poop or get off the pot.
Yakupov isn't going to resign in Edmonton for less then Sbisa money, he will probably go back to the KHL when his contract is up which means he is a declining asset that has a current cap hit of 3.5m. - Pres.cup
I have yet to see anyone say Yak and 32 were offered for Gudbranson. Sounds like a made up rumour to make Canuck fans feel better about Benning's genius trade. |

What question am I avoiding ?
I'm saying we barely have use for gudbranson as we don't need more 3rd pairing/low end guys. Of any hand. Not only will we be looking for higher end right handed defenders, but even if we didn't succeed in landing at least one that's better than EG (Its a pretty huge pool of defenders that are superior to him), we have lhd that are proven to have better results on their off side than Eric does playing his natural side.
Point is, we wouldn't move any serious asset for Eric. And Whether u added in a pick or not, there is absolutely no scenario where we consider trading nuge with Eric gudbranson as the main asset coming back. None.
But maybe a middling/lower asset we'd do.
As far as the yaks thing you're still trying to push; provide proof of said offer or it's just bs. No matter how many times u say it |
