And here's the problem. That's STILL not even what I'm arguing. Typically, the term 'tire fire' is used to describe a failure or a complete mess of a situation. As I've now said numerous times, my argument is against how you can suggest that the Canucks are a greater failure than the Oilers considering this is the first time they've finished with fewer wins (not even points) than the Oilers in many years. - MaximumBone
A) The Canucks are currently a tire fire
B) I'm fairly certain that with better luck injury wise that we will finish higher in the standing next season. |

But we haven't yet. All I'm saying is we shouldn't get cocky simply because our future looks better. However, they really are an absolute tire fire. |

The one thing we both agree on - prismo
They're making the mistake of not drafting any Dmen with their higher picks early in the rebuild. Their D future rests on the shoulders of Edler and Tanev (a solid 2nd pairing), Hutton (a potential 2nd paring guy), and Tryamkin (a long shot at a competitive top-4 guy). No high end in there to speak of, and pretty much all of their 1sts the past decade have been forwards (minimal high end talent in there, too).
Boeser, Virtanen, McCann (gone), Horvat, Shinkaruk (gone), Gaunce, Jensen (gone/bust), Schroeder (gone/bust), Hodgson (gone/bust), White (gone/bust), and Grabner (gone/bust). Excluding Yan Sauve (drafted at #44), the highest they've drafted a Dman is #66 (Brisebois and Tryamkin). That is not a recipe for success in any way, shape, or form. |

Agreed but things are going in a better direction under Chiarelli and McLellan - prismo
How so? A 2nd last place finish with McDavid? Awesome new direction. |

At least they have a direction now. There's an endgame and a look they're aiming for. This offseason will be the real indicator for the difference the change in management can make. We'll have to wait and see. |

They have a lot of work to do... I hope Edmonton scores a good draft this year, last years wasn't too bad aside from the Reinhart trade. |

They improved slightly over previous year which is amazing considering the lack of depth, sheer number of freak injuries and the fact the Chia used this as an "evaluation" year.
I was really impressed on how he added size on the cheap. |

I'm not holding my breath. The Oilers could make the playoffs if and only if PC can fernangle 2 top 4 D, successful plu whatever new hole he creates with capable veterans,we can avoid the injury bug, everyone has a decent season and/or at least progresses and someone , anyone who has yet to, has a mega breakout season.
Otherwise, same old poopty poop. |

Yeah, Bear, Jones, and Paigin are all showing good signs early, but it remains to be seen if they can build on it. I hope they're aiming to restock the cupboards of forwards with skill cause we'll need to develop some quality guys who can step in when the cap becomes a problem. Assuming we don't trade pick in some maneuver, coming out of the draft with a group including one of Dubois or Tkachuck at 4, one of Johansen, Bastian, or Steel at 32, and a couple of Sambrook, Allard, Gregor, Kuokkanen, Green, or Mete in the 3rd round. Pursue the skill and ability that can skate and some of them will find their way. |

If it makes at least one of you sick (frank)s a tad uncomfortable...it was well worth it.
Sadly, it's more like to arouse some of you creeps. - Jeropotato
Not shocking or uncomfortable and the only people you're going to arouse are JB, OilHorse, Lums and possibly Leon. |

Caggiula was a solid pickup in that regard. |
