Keep the finn in Europe.
It is bad cap management by columbus, but they won't lose jones. - Tumbleweed
Still loving how Puljujarvi's ELC is going to make them lose Jones to an offer sheet. |

They have the resources to make a huge offer for one of the top Dmen in the league. The guy I would go after would be in the range of a Doughty. If it takes Draisaitl, Yakupov and the #4, I would do it. LA is caught in cap hell and they are going to need to do some rebuilding and losing of salary. Perhaps you can't get Doughty. But the Oil can get a top D like an Edman-Larssen or a Subban.
I really think Chiarelli is going to pull off a spectacular move. - spatso
Zero chance Lombardi trades Doughty. Without him, the Kings' D suddenly becomes one of the worst in the league, and that's factoring in two very good defensemen in Muzzin and Martinez. Doughty only gets traded if the Kings are completely tearing it all down and that's not what they're doing (at least not yet). |

Guys like Doughty, EK, and even OEL are not going anywhere unless it's a really stupid, massive overpayment, and even then it's not guaranteed to work. |

Of course the Jackets will want to match. The problem is they would go into the 10% overage to match and they couldnt hope to sign anyone else before trading others for pennies on the dollar IF they can get NMCs waived. It's a summer's worth of work just to keep Jones and play the 3rd overall pick if he makes the team and at the end of the day the team will be worse than it is now.
Laugh off a deal at 6M all you want because you think Columbus will match, but even an offer that low will make life for their brass a living hell. The Bruins traded Hamilton away for next to nothing before they even had a chance to make those tough decisions. It's clearly a threat that holds weight in the NHL community, even if you dont think it should. |

If the only solution is to trade the team's leading scorer and keep their best prospect in Europe then the Oil or ANYBODY ELSE should put the offer in |

Wrench in this plan is all the timing that goes into it. Draft and Buy out period happens before he is available to sign an offersheet. Jackets have lots of opportunity to create cap space now until July 4th.
Dougie was traded bc he didnt want to sign there, different situations in my opinion |

Definitely, but either way it will likely benefit one or a couple other teams as they clear space |

I imagine Boston would be much happier to get the 4th overall this year than the package they got from Calgary! |

I think they move Jack Johnson before they do anything drastic.
Jones, Murray, Savard already in Top 4...they have Werenski signed to his ELC so he will be in the mix next year. Thats a pretty impressive young Top 4 to go forward with
JJ and his 4.3m cap hit will be sent packing first |

What about J. Trouba? With Winnipeg's pending RFA's, is there an opportunity there? |

Its the threat that will get the oilers Jones not the actual offer sheet. However, much like Boston...if the oilers threaten an offer sheet then present a trade offer...Columbus is going to counter by asking for Nurse or Klefbom to be in the return. |

This is Sweeney we are talking about though. He'd probably trade the 4th for Gudbranson and Granlund. |

Not to be a buzzkill but what if Seth doesn't want to play in Edmonton? Just because Chiarelli offer- sheets him doesn't mean he's going to sign it. Moot point anyway, the Jackets will match it and figure out the rest later, similar to what Nashville did with the Weber offer sheet. |

Personally I'd rather not piss off a potential trading partner, but that's just me. |
