Not to side with any of these idiot trolls, but I hate Guly doubt Chia will get much done this summer. He might get a #3 D Man, but that's clearly not enough. I can't see how this team will climb the standings simply by being a year older. Am I pessimistic? Yes. |

I like the offer sheet route but there is a down side to the process. Assuming they have to wait until July 1 to sign Jones up, CLB has ten days to match? Is that right? If it is, PC potentially has 5.5mil of cap space tied up during the start of the of the fa signing period with no way of knowing if clb with match. In the mean time, how many FA D will get signed while EDM waits? |

My optimism for the off season died two seasons ago. Its better to be pessimistic than to get ones hopes up. |

As a CBJ fan, many people here have feared someone would offer sheet Seth Jones, and it is hard to see a downside to someone like Edmonton doing it. But there are things the CBJ can do to collect the $$$ necessary to sign him, like buying out Jared Boll, putting David Clarkson on LTIR (he only played seventeen games last year, and he sure seems like damaged goods at this point), maybe even keeping Puljujärvi in the AHL or in Europe if necessary.
The question Edmonton has to ask is if they think he is a top pairing defenseman for the next eight to ten years and is he worth the risk of paying big money long-term. There may well be free agents out there with less risk.
But all in all the idea of an offer sheet is something I don; tlike as a CBJ fan, but from the Oilers point of view it seems like a low risk move. |

Now we're talking! Nice write-up Hendo!
I think you are 100% correct that the sharks will be swimming (and attacking) the moment any of the young Oiler studs might hit RFA status. "to hell with playing nice" indeed. I don't think it is just the fans that are annoyed/jealous of the Oilers recent draft history, GMs and management are also having these feelings.
We can afford to give up a bit of the future given the current roster and prospect inventory.
Hit first, and hit hard.

If I'm CBJ I find someone to gift some second and third picks to for taking Hartnell off the books- maybe they retain some money but it could clear 3 or 3.5 and lessen the squeeze. Not much else for choice- trading J Johnson if he'll go but his value is not at a high mark now. They have to keep Jones and their young scorers Jenner, Atkinson, Saad and Bjorkstrand. |

You know that it's summer in e-town. Here we go with the offer sheet talk. Every year is the same thing. I'd love for this to happen, but it never does. Pieterangelo, Hamilton, now Jones??? Like I said, wish it would happen, but they never do 😞 |

Jones will sign a long term contract with Columbus. |

Yes it's dreaming to think they can grab Jones via offer sheet
The only reason it happened with Hamilton is cause he wanted out, I don't think CBJ fears the offer sheet cause they will match and they're willing to pay up |

Agreed. The Oulers are better off using this compensation picks or the equivalent of in a good old fashion hockey trade.
Sure, there's nobody on the market but there are offers that give a smart GM pause, not to mention the idiotic ones. |

Not to mention other players that may be a bit older with less upside, but are at the moment better . Seth is good now, but not ready to anchor our poop show. |

Yeah I'm not sure GMPC is some magic man either. Getting the help we need will be hard. |

On a side note, how amazing would it be if Edmonton would be able to take Chychrun and Tkachuk.... that would be some scary depth in the prospect pool, and I think they can do it if the right trades come up (Montreal).
At this point, it would be wiser to move out one of the core pieces (Either Eberle or RNH, but most likely Eberle (Did you know he is going to turn 27?!)) and take Tkachuk. If(When) an expansion does happen, it will definitely help Edmonton out.
As for Demers, he should be a prime target for our Top 4 spot, however, anything north of 4-4.5mill and above 4 years would be a big over payment. |

I totally agree, no need to ruin his confidence.
What you guys needed to do was trade RNH for Gudbranson
And a 2nd, seeing as yak and a 2nd couldn't get it done..... just another example of Kevin Lowes over valued mismanagement.
Edit
How about Sbisa and Columbus's 2nd for RNH.... oops I forgot RHD is what you need, tryamkin and Sbisa.... no... all right then, subban and Sbisa, final offer. |

Another thing to mention is that whether or not Chia will try to pursue Perron in FA as well. He had the best season of his career as an Oiler and he would definitely compliment Chia's type of playing style. |

Your talking about team mismanagement yet didn't your team also trade out luongo and Schneider for picks and prospects? How has that turned out for ya? Check yourself before you wreck yourself mate.
- EdmHockeyMan
To late
Yes.....
Should have traded luongo and kept Schneider.... but at least we have Horvat
And in 5 years demco will make us forget about our goaltending issues, maybe maelstrom will finally realize his potential
Maybe we can trade you Miller, he would probably get you into the playoffs ...... this year
Tell you what, RNH for Miller and a second

Instead of offer sheeting Jones:
The Oilers and the Jets should talk.
To Edmonton: Jacob Trouba, 22nd 2016 overall pick, high level prospect.
To Winnipeg: Darnell Nurse, 4th 2016 overall pick
Better option than offer sheeting Jones and you get to keep your picks. |

Been saying for a while now that Nurse might need to be moved for a young, quality R D. I think Nurse for Trouba straight up might do it. |
