and even grigo didn't make that much of a contribution...murray traded away some good pieces, but will any individually match up to o'reilly?...or even kane for that matter - Michael Pachla
Gringo outpaced Legwand by a few points.
And he was the most valuable piece we gave away. Colin White scored 43 points in 37 games at BC. Zadarov averaged 16:00 TOI in the Avalanche's last six games w 0g 0a. |

compher's gonna hurt and if Lemieux ever gets his head out of his ass, he could end up being a pretty good one as well...
that said, as good as both could wind up being, they probably won't match o'reilly or even kane |

Compher hurts a little but you're right O'Riley more than makes up for it
Lemiuex is the one I'm most worried about. Especially because Kane only has two years left here to prove if he's worth keeping |

Goalies are like Running Backs.. Plug and Play. Usually.
Unless the next Dom shows up, I don't think it matters who you have in net. Just use which ever goalie you have hot at the moment. - Pope of Pucks
I totally agree with this. There are a very small group of really good ones and a really small group of really bad ones. The rest are all pretty much the same. |

I have a feeling Kane only plays here until his contract expires.
If he breaks out, he's gonna want a raise. If he doesnt, we'll probably move on from him and hope we've developed someone to take his place.
Just a feeling. Not sure why. |

I agree... For our sake I hope he has a great year this year and then suck in 2017-2018 so we can trade him for a 2nd round pick and hopefully by then have to wingers who are better in talent |

Fat Signal activated.
Grigs 2 way game is what was really impressive, his defensive shot suppression metrics were on par with Sean Couturier. Was shocked at how well he played positionally away from the puck.
Zads game is never going to be able point totals, he was a possession monster as well when he was in the line up and a mean mean sob
If Roy ever got his head out of his ass and ran better schemes those guys would really shine.
Throw in Compher and AJ Greer from that 2nd round pick. I have fatmarsh crushes on them all |

I've all ready stated on the previous board I think the pick is at about 75% Chychrun. This is really the first Murray draft we have no idea where he's leaning in the first round. Slightly exciting slightly scary.
Chychrun makes sense because Murray loves scouting players and he will have remembered he was the 1st overall selection in WHL draft and he has NHL bloodlines. He's a big bodied LHD as well so I think this will be Murray's pick. Unless Jouvei or Nylander somehow drop at which case I'm not sure how it will shake out.
I like Sergechov (sp?) from an offensive upside standpoint but I see Murray liking Chychrun's pedigree |

No offense but I don't think anyone of them will be the player O'Riley is. Nor will Soderberg who you got to replace him. If we kept McGinn and were somehow able to resign him under 4 mill it would have been an even bigger win for us. The only trade out of the major two I feel we lost so far is the one with the Jets

They never were going to be, Avs needed quality young depth to build an actual farm system, create cap space. Just bc a team gave up the best player in the deal doesnt mean they got hosed.
Sabres paid a high price for him, get a great player in ROR and were able to pay him. Its a simple as that. Avs got what they needed and Sabres got what they wanted
I really think some of the Sabre faithful here need to stop with he instant analysis of the young guys involved in these trades. Most of the guys shipped out were 20-21 year olds who yet to play a full season in the NHL for NHL experienced players. Like I said Sabres got what they wanted and both the Jets and the Avs got what they needed in trading out the bigger name |

From a Sabres depth and culture standpoint Grigerenko wasn't going to be on the team anyway last year. He would have never gotten the guarantee from Murray he'd make the team and I don't think he'd fit in Bylsma's (stupid) defensive system. If he wasn't traded he'd likely have spurned us for the KHL. No love loss there.
Zadorov, I liked his potential a lot but it seems like he still even hasn't been able to break into the NHL full time and consistently. He still has more time to prove it as he's young but there are questions about his game, and he got into trouble here a few times with some dumb mistakes showing up late etc. I like him as a player but he was probably the center piece in getting O'Riley for us
Compher, could be a nice 3rd line center. A poor mans Chris Drury if you will. I was looking forward to having him but the way our system is constructed we have a lot of those types of players so while it hurt to see him go I'm not weeping over it. |

Its not that Zads couldn't break into the NHL, they want to take their time with him, let him learn the game in the AHL, the guy is good. , Roy wants guys to have some serious AHL seasoning before they start sniffing the NHL roster.
it seemed that the Ted Nolan era was a joke when it comes to development of players. Zads mentioned it afterwards when he was called back up that he was happy he got to work in the AHL, spend time getting big minutes, on the PP and hearing that a coaching staff had a development plan for him.
Grigo had an interview this offseason in Russia and he said he loved having coaches spend time with him to teach and develop after practice, working on the little things and in his time in Buffalo he didn't get that.
Glad you guys moved on from Teddy, from both those guys it seemed like he didn't give a poop about teaching young guys, just wanted to turn out an NHL roster on game day and hope not to lose

Because goaltending, mostly, is based on the defense in front of said goalie. |

Zadorov isn't ready I don't think. He played a lot here because when he was here he said he would bolt for KHL if he was sent down to Juniors (can't say I blame him that rule is stupid) but he was being a pain about it and he played nice sometimes but also showed some inconsistency's.
Grigerenko got the short end of the stick in his development I agree. He was rushed to the NHL because he as well made a big stink about going back to juniors. And then when the coaches (Nolan and Rolston) had him they put him on lines mostly with John Scott and other 4th line bums I can't remember. So yes his development was messed up but he also complained about it a lot and threatened to bolt to the KHL last off season. I don't blame Murray for trading him. |

That's true, but 100 7th round picks will (likely) never add up to Crosby, Ovechkin, et al...
So cumulative value isn't really the best thing to go by.
The Avs were able to do it because they have the horses up front to withstand the shortish term loss. The Jets really had no choice and took the best offer. |

Why not? Columbus will want to get rid of him because his complaining of not cracking their roster. I'd make a run at either him or Atkinson for sure. The latter likely costing more |

Hopefully they don't move it back to (frank)ing Toronto. I could see a city like Pittsburgh or a team with a newer arena wanting it too. |

The same reason Drouin wasn't shipped off for pennies on the dollar. They control his rights and won't be dictated to by some young guy who didn't get what he wants. However, he handled it light years better than Drouin, but the principle remains the same.
He was a highish pick just two years ago and they don't know what they have in him. |

I doubt it, it was in a hotel conference room in Toronto. I don't know what other cities have setups like we do with HarborCenter that will be close enough to Toronto/NY. |
