Erikson might help us win a few more games but I don't see him wanting to come play here just to play with the Sedin's in their twilight years.

While the hometown angle is usually overstated, I think that is the only reason Brouwer would think about coming here but I think he would want a 5-6 year contract to carry him through the rest of his career (likely).

I hope the nucks stay out of the UFA market for the most part and save their cap to take advantage of cap strapped teams.

- belcherbd

That would be inline with the JB approach thus far. Trying to find the hidden gems.
I still think he'll sink his teeth into at least 1 UFA forward.

He sure doesn't sound very excited to play here, plus he's still under contract until July 1.
- A_SteamingLombardi

no kidding, not sure if that was just his personality- a bit laid back, or maybe a bit of being tired after a long season + playoff run. maybe he will be more excited after July 1?

there are a few ufa options, I just don't want JB to overpay with term, I'm not against overpaying the right player for a 2 year contract without any ntc.

yeah...right after you apologize for suggesting the Oilers should have traded RNH to Florida for Gudbranson.
- Jeropotato

I wouldn't laugh that offer off so quickly...your team desperately needs a shake up and some size in the lineup. I mean, kassian is an important part of your team simply because he isn't a midget

He's a little distressed because he really wants to play with Connor McDavid but now that his buddy David Backes will be testing the market he might get the Oilers attention instead. This is a very stressful time for free agents because Edmonton only wants 1 or 2 veteran forwards this year.

Yeah term is the key thing, I wouldn't sign any 30 year old for more than 2 years, Prust is 32 and he's done. If you sign Brouwer for 4 years you'll be buying him out like Burrows.

Although I tend to agree with you I don't think this fanbase will tolerate not spending to the cap...sign UFA's mass hysteria. Save $10million in cap space, mass hysteria

I don't think any of the names being thrown will be taking 2 year deals.

2 year deals get you guys like Stempniak, Parenteau, Purcell, Chimera etc.
Useful players no doubt but not guys who will make drastically change the team.

I'm kinda confused about wtf you are on about. You seem to have made an assumption about 'my team' and failed big time.

I've never heard of Druce or Kontos until now.

We need more size? thats so 2013. We have 2 regular forwards under 195lbs...but I understand if you don't have time to keep up with current events.

They can still spend to the cap by making trades and I would imagine many of those would go down before the season starts to allow teams to use the cap space we take.

For example I imagine Hornqvist, Kunitz, Hartnell, Sharp, Hemksy, Berglun, Steen Brown, Gaborik among other could be available at a discount considering where their teams are with the cap.

The issue with you and your posts is that you want 99% of the consensus in a Canucks thread that Pit won the Bonino trade. They didn't plain and simple. Bonino was a total bust in Van. Streaky, poor skater that couldn't mesh with any line mates coaching put on him. Then…he was a total bust in PIT until March until paired with hagelin and Kessel. So…basically Bonino plays with two top 6 players finally and has some success in the PO's and you want us all to pat you on the back and say 'hey…wow we sure lost on Bonino'…we didn't. No one can predict that and GM's make moves based on performance AT THE TIME. They don't project where Bonino will be in 6 months, 9 months or two years. He didn't work out here..end of story. And was MANHANDLED by the Flames in RD 1 of last seasons playoffs. If you don't have the ability to read between the lines and see the intangibles of how Sutter will be a much better player for us then maybe you shouldn't be posting until you have a full understanding. It's probably not your fault as most don't have the necessary experiences to comment on these situations properly and you appear to be no different than most of the trolls who think they can…it's just that you come across like you really don't know what you are talking about and it's detrimental and unbecoming to your posts. Hopefully you will gain the experiences one day to comment properly without provocation.

2 year w/ overpayment is what I'm thinking. I think Eriksson might do 2/3 years to play with the Sedins. how much of an over payment is the tricky part, an extra mill or so per... damn the salaries are mind boggling.

I don't know about him being a total bust man, and that is really the point that Ron, whether he is a troll or not, is making.

Bonino didn't work out here and I agree the consensus here is that Sutter is a player better suited to what we need, his contract withstanding, but that doesn't mean Bonino wasn't a good complementary player here or with the Pens.

Van relied very heavily on Bonino and while he was streaky scorer he did hold down the 2C spot on a 100 point team and was asked to take on a lot of responsibility. Calling him a bust is false and does make it sound like you are trying to prove that the Canucks didn't lose the trade, which I agree they didn't.

Canucks average height is 6.1 and weight is 194.2lbs, Oilers is 6.1 and 203.3 lbs. Maybe it's the Nucks who have to add some size.

Possibly I guess but why would Eriksson, who is 30 and fresh off a very good season burn 2-3 years of opportunity to win for an extra mil or so short term?

I think he will be able to secure a 5 or 6 year deal at 30-35 million which is better than even a short term deal at 18 or 21.

We just aren't in the right place to be spending big money and term on UFAs. We need more short term deals like Vrbata. That one was amazing year one and now that he helped tank this season, he's gone.

I also like taking on potentially useful player to flip at the TDL. Toronto had some success stockpiling with that. Now, we're not the centre of the universe, so our fringe players don't get the free advertizing theirs do, but it's still a reasonable approach.
