Apperently Kyprios or someone else, can't remember said that if Datsyuk plays in KHL next year his Detroit hit is eliminated - bluengold12
That does not sound fair.
Don't remember, but what about the Kovalchuck situation? Was it different? I know they took a big hit.
Edit: and I think there is something in the CBA about this.
Double edit: yes, according to CBA, the contract stands because it was after he was 35 |

He retired, but he was also under 35.
Datsyuk is over, so they can't ditch the contract. Especially since he didn't "retire" |

Exactly. I keep hearing that they will have no problem trading the contract and wiping their hands clean. I don't get that. Who would trade for a dead contract? If you're in danger of missing the floor, you are a budget team that would want an active player eating up that money.
Am I missing something? |

I forgot the exact quote but it seems like there's a loophole where they can suspend him |

Dan Milstein, Datsyuk's agent, told the Detroit Free Press the Wings have said they would not try to trade Datsyuk's contract. Yet that is the only scenario that makes sense for the Wings. There are no loopholes in the CBA. It's trade the contract, or take the hit.

And DeKeyser is one of those steady guys who does a lot more than people ever notice. I really think there is something worth looking at here. |

Guess the guy, it was Renaud Lavoie I believe it was is wrong. Which is surprising because he's usually pretty reliable |

I think, and I could definitely be wrong, that if they suspend him it's like LTIR type situation where the cap hit stands but they're allowed to go over the cap for the amount his contract is. |

I'm not too worried about it. Rumor has it Todd Richards and Brad Shaw are possible candidates to replace him and I'd say they are both equal or better. |

This cap nonsense teams that are in cap trouble are beginning to execute needs to be stopped and fast.
Between the baloney Richards contract being voided because the Kings GM was too dumb to use a compliance buyout on him when anybody with a brain could see that was needed to this potential joke of suspending a player that leaves to avoid his cap hit, it's becoming a joke to get out of trouble GM's put themselves in. |

It has to do with the language of the CBA, which says the amount a 35+ player EARNS in any year counts against the cap. So some are saying if Datsyuk plays in Russia then he breaches the agreement and can be suspended, so he EARNS nothing.
But that's way too simple. A guy who plays in Russia doesn't EARN his NHL pay any more than a guy who retires during his contract, and retiring in the late years of the contract to avoid the cap hit is exactly what the +35 rule was written to avoid. It can't be that the rules use of the word EARNED has to do with trying to play in the NHL (especially in a league where nearly all contracts are guaranteed) or it wouldn't work at all |

The Flyers traded Pronger's contract and he works for the (frank)ing league! Also the Bruins traded Savard's to Florida. |

Subban? I don't think we have to assets, unless we're talking Risto, Reinhart, 8th. |

If that was a possibility, sign me up. I think it takes at least two of Reinhart, Risto, and 8th to even start talks though. |

Should I just sell my Gus Jersey now since it sounds like he's going to get traded I'm done asking for jerseys now but if we sign Stamkos that might be a different story
It's mind blowing what I'm hearing about him now I thought he was going to be the captain of this team at one time |
