Carol, I still don't think you have Burrows buyout correct. His contract is not a back-diving contract under the current CBA rules. You are allowed a 35% variance from year to year but you're not allowed to have the lowest year less than 50% of the highest year. Thus his contract is fully compliant with current rules.
"Variance: 35 per cent per year but a minimum of going no lower than 50 per cent of the highest year
That’s a high number for variance, but it’s mitigated quite significantly by the 50 per cent minimum there.
That basically means any deal that includes one year of salary at $10-million cannot have another year at less than $5-million, which ends the very egregious backdiving deals that were an issue for the league under the last agreement.
(Update: There is some suggestion at this point that the minimum would only apply to the final year of a deal. If that's the case, contracts would be able to dip below that 50 per cent mark at points earlier than the final season.)"

Yes indeed. If my team was in the SCF the last thing I would be doing is trolling a bottom feeder team like the Canucks. SJ Perhaps? I do get why people do these kinds of things but...

Please explain it to me, because I don't have a (frank)ing clue why these asshats waste their time.
One of the worst teams in the NHL (VAN). The Trolls? I'm not qualified to comment on those kinds of disorders. Your guess is as good as mine. - VanHockeyGuy
Haven't you learned anything.
When you have one of the worst teams all you need to do is draft a Nylander and problems fixed.
yea SJ needs to make this a series. Hate sweeps. Scores have been tight but the series is not even close.
We need to get to the draft asap after that!
Also, you guys find it weird that such a big (kinda) trade was made during the playoffs. You never see that. Is there an unwritten rule to not make trades til playoffs are over?
figured there would be a trade freeze til after the playoffs. Pitt and SJ can't trade. Or maybe they can, just not active roster players obv. So why everyone else. Just weird in my opinion.
Anyways, props to JB for getting it done quickly and quietly.
Really coulda used some picks from a Hammer and or Vrbata trade
TSN has become mostly a joke. 5 channels and they still black out Jets leafs and Sens games Not that anyone gives a sh!t about the leafs.
And when a main event is on it's on all 5 of their channels
They have really slid downhill since they lost the NHL rights to SN basically following the CBC path into oblivion. I am very much hoping CBC is punted altogether when their contract with SN is done in 3 seasons and TSN can just wither away.
I do like Strombo though...miles better than that bias jackass Maclean. - LordHumungous
They have no choice. Rogers owns the national rights, tsn only has regional rights for a few markets and can't show the games outside of those markets. I'm sure they'd love to if they could.
And as much as TSN and CBC leave much to be desired, I wouldn't be so quick to hope for their demise. The only good thing to come from Rogers is that we aren't forced to watch the Maple Leafs at 4:00 on Saturdays. Everything else about their coverage is shlt. The Playoff coverage has been particularly brutal.
So I'm wondering how things are gonna shake out in the next month and can't help but wonder what the line up COULD look like with minimal moves and perhaps buyouts.
Hypothetically, if we sign our RFA's and buyout Higgins and Burrows we have something like this:
Regardless of UFA signing, we have to think Sbisa and Hansen are the ideal guys to move because Hansen has value and Sbisa is the odd guy out. Entertain the idea of them being traded for prospect depth or picks.
Mix up some things for the first part of the year and see if Etem finds anything.
Now the lines could be mixed up any which way you want to do it but it shows two obvious holes we are all aware of.
I don't think it's continually smart to play Sutter with the Sedins because once the Sedins are gone Sutter or Horvat are the current options for succession.
Sign Lucic and Eriksson and you have a decent looking line up.
With the current thoughts on resigns, trades (total speculation) and buyouts we sit with about say 15 million to sign Lucic and Eriksson. I'd prefer more money over term so say 6 each. We might still squeeze in a guy like Martin to replace Gaunce or another banger type player. McGinn I think costs more.
That makes a huge difference in size and grit both up front and on defense which makes us a much harder team to play against and maybe gives Etem some guidance by having a guy like Lucic help make space on the ice. Sutter is responsible enough defensively to compensate for lack of speed from Lucic as well. Etem is a huge wild card.
The 3rd line speaks for itself with youth and balaced skill sets.
The 4th Line brings energy and grit with the potential for scoring.
The Sedins and Eriksson do their thing.
I don't see Sbisa being the right guy to mentor Tryamkin and the idea of Larssen being the puck mover and shooter frees him up to be a stay at home defenseman.
Honestly, I'm just bored and the thread has really mellowed out over the last few Bonino threads so take it or leave it but I'm digging for a debate.
Or do you keep it as simple as possible and maybe gamble on playing the 5th overall on the left side somewhere whether it's Dubois or Tkachuk?

according to generalfanager and cap friendly it's 2.5 this season and 1 next season. Same as what she said. 1/3 under 26 2/3 over 26.
