So I'm wondering how things are gonna shake out in the next month and can't help but wonder what the line up COULD look like with minimal moves and perhaps buyouts.
Hypothetically, if we sign our RFA's and buyout Higgins and Burrows we have something like this:
Dank-Hank-?
?-Sutter-Hansen
Baertschi-Horvat-Virtanen
Etem-Granlund-Dorsett
Vey/Gaunce
Edler-Tanev
Hutton-Gudbranson
Tryamkin-Sbisa
Pedan/Larssen
Regardless of UFA signing, we have to think Sbisa and Hansen are the ideal guys to move because Hansen has value and Sbisa is the odd guy out. Entertain the idea of them being traded for prospect depth or picks.
Mix up some things for the first part of the year and see if Etem finds anything.
Then it becomes:
Dank-Hank-?
?-Sutter-Etem
Baertschi-Horvat-Virtanen
Gaunce-Granlund-Dorsett
Vey
Edler-Tanev
Hutton-Gudbranson
Tryamkin-Larssen
Pedan
Now the lines could be mixed up any which way you want to do it but it shows two obvious holes we are all aware of.
I don't think it's continually smart to play Sutter with the Sedins because once the Sedins are gone Sutter or Horvat are the current options for succession.
Sign Lucic and Eriksson and you have a decent looking line up.
Dank-Hank-Eriksson
Lucic-Sutter-Etem
Baertschi-Horvat-Virtanen
Gaunce-Granlund-Dorsett
Vey
Defense remains as above.
With the current thoughts on resigns, trades (total speculation) and buyouts we sit with about say 15 million to sign Lucic and Eriksson. I'd prefer more money over term so say 6 each. We might still squeeze in a guy like Martin to replace Gaunce or another banger type player. McGinn I think costs more.
That makes a huge difference in size and grit both up front and on defense which makes us a much harder team to play against and maybe gives Etem some guidance by having a guy like Lucic help make space on the ice. Sutter is responsible enough defensively to compensate for lack of speed from Lucic as well. Etem is a huge wild card.
The 3rd line speaks for itself with youth and balaced skill sets.
The 4th Line brings energy and grit with the potential for scoring.
The Sedins and Eriksson do their thing.
I don't see Sbisa being the right guy to mentor Tryamkin and the idea of Larssen being the puck mover and shooter frees him up to be a stay at home defenseman.
Honestly, I'm just bored and the thread has really mellowed out over the last few Bonino threads so take it or leave it but I'm digging for a debate.
Or do you keep it as simple as possible and maybe gamble on playing the 5th overall on the left side somewhere whether it's Dubois or Tkachuk? - WhatTheNuck

Canucks have one of the most active boards on here, they know there's a passionate audience here during most waking hours.

according to generalfanager and cap friendly it's 2.5 this season and 1 next season. Same as what she said. 1/3 under 26 2/3 over 26. - manvanfan
She stated there's recapture involved because he has a back-diving contract, but he technically doesn't under current CBA rules. So I don't think recapture is in the picture, but I've been wrong several times before, just not yet today |

Halford basically said the Nucks are out to lunch if they think their young guys are gonna take "huge strides" next year to make them a competitive team. Every other team has kids, more & better, that'll equal out any strides the Canucks young players will make.

i'd have to agree with your about the Sbisa. I don't think he would be the best match playing along side tryamkin. I could see the canucks trading sbisa and their 5th to Edmonton for the 4th overall and maybe a later round pick. Edmonton needs some size on the backend and I don't think they really care if they get Dubois or Tkachuk.... they basically get a free player by moving a spot down. Canucks would free up some capspace and a roster spot to either sign Hamhuis to play alongside tryamkin or they go even crazier and go after a guy like Yandle... then you have a bit of offense on every defensive pair. Or maybe they go off the board and go after a guy like Justin Shultz. I think he could be a good pairing with Tree and would be fantastic as a PP specialist that you can hide on the 3rd pairing.

Probably Yosts mentor...willie D's take on Boninno was interesting. Basically said that we didn't have the fast enough players play with him. He also said that the guys in the room felt we would have made the playoffs if Sutter was healthy |

I don't see the young guys (Horvat, Virtanen, Etem, Baertschi) making huge strides either, I do see them getting better, as in putting up somewhat better numbers.
My predictions...
Horvat - 18 goals 45 points
Virtanen - 14 goals 23 points
Etem - 11 goals 20 points
Baertschi - 19 goals 33 points |

Good shot blocker sure but that doesn't mean his whole game is good, because it really isn't. Made some improvements I suppose, but he stinks.
If they can reduce his minutes he'll be fine I guess.
Good in a scrum though |

I dont think he's that bad either, but that doesnt make him valuable. He is likely a better option than Larssen, but if he isnt better than Larssen why would Edmonton (who gave him away for a 5th round pick) take the guy who's apparently worse in combination with their higher pick for our lower pick? |

Etem is the underdog I am hitching my wagon to this year. Last season I was rooting for Sven, Matthias the year before, and Booth/Ballard in years past. I hope he finds that scoring touch he had in Jr's because his speed is very valuable in this league and he could be very dangerous if he can get it all together |

The hate he gets here is baffling from the fans and media. He actually played quite well last year. He is a fine 5/6 physical Dman. That being said, he has been upgraded and they should trade him |

His contract makes him unappealing unless salary is retained as well. |

Larson told Edmonton that he wouldn't play there. They wanted him back |
