I wonder if there has ever been a study conducted with respect to how much bloodlines have any impact or affect (if any) on a second generation's player's overall quality. Is it really something tangible or simply a fallacy.

In recent days there seems to have been some merit to it, however, with the likes of second generation players like Max Domi, Mathew Tkachuk, Nylander, Mantha, Kapanen, Reinharts, etc, not to mention previous NHL'ers like Brett Hull, the Sutters, Folignos, Mark Howe, Z Parise, Paul Stastny, who all had fathers who were decent to very good NHLers.

Hence, would bloodlines really be something to keep in mind when drafting? or as indicated, is this simply fishing for any sort of tangible connection?

Great insight.

Tough to make the genetic connection obviously but coming from 'good stock' is a factor. You can bet on it.

I don't know, other than physical size, which perhaps plays into athletic ability, I don't put any stock in children of athletes, any athlete. NHL players kids have a couple things going for them, exposure and money which can lend itself to better training and coaching.

I believe your desire, your heart within, your compete level, which is more important than pure talent, is just something you're born with. Some have it and some don't. I don't think that's a DNA thing. Wherever it comes from, you got it or you don't.

Really loved Cassius Clay. I really appreciate him taking a stand for everything he believed in. I love the fact that he went in and met Wayne and said " I hear they call you the great one, well I tell ya there's only one great one and that's me. "

It isn't often that the entertainment world ( or world ) is blessed with such figurehead that everyone can look up to. May you rest in peace Ali.

Also, to whomever it is that figures old school athletes don't compare to modern ones, find a boxer than can do what this guy did.

Veys dad is found guilty.
I wonder if that means linden will have a sense of relief and start playing like the number one Center we all expected.

I want Dubois only if he will further develop as a centre. If both Tkachuk and Dubois play LW, Tkachuk all the way. Between Brown, Tkachuk, and Dubois I would say a definite no to Brown at #5. Brown is someone you move down for and get an extra pick or 2. Dubois played better at centre than wing. I would take him because if you get a franchise centre in any future draft, you have your LW. And if you don't he can be your franchise centre.

Just food for thought on this one, Trevor Linden was drafted as a RW'er, where he played in Medicine Hat. The Canucks converted him to a center.

I like both, but what in your mind sets Dubois apart from Brown at the center position? Keep in mind Brown is a natural center and more of a puck distributor from what I've seen, which is admittedly limited.

Vey has a higher upside than Bonino. A clear mind and the sky is the limit.

How come no one here is talking about Nylander. Are we done with Swedes?

I could see us drafting Nylander and flipping him to Toronto for Morgan Rielly.

It'll take a decade's worth of second round picks to make that happen. That said, I'd be interested. I've forgotten what it's like to draft in the second round.
