Yeah that was definitely an interesting read. Buying out Wideman is ludicrous when he would be a perfect contract dump for another contract dump. I wonder if the Leafs would give us Lupul & their 2nd (31) for Wideman & our #58.
I do like the Colborne & our #53 for the #15, even if we had to add the 58 I would do those 3 for the #15 in a heartbeat!!!!

MIN may consider it too, since they only have like 4 picks and most of them late picks.

I like that first trade. My worry when it comes to getting one of these definite number 1 goaltenders is what are the Flames going to have to pay them. Once they have him what will they have to pay Andersen? Is he a 5 million goalier? Getting a number 1 goalie of the higher caliber just compounds the need to move contracts like Wideman's out. Keep in mind they also need to sign a back up, to which I say Ortio at up to 1.5mil.

As much as my heart wants to see that second trade. I want to see Iggy back on this team. I really don't think that he should be. I just don't see how the dynamic of it all will work. It is one thing for him to be a supporting player else where, but can he be that for the Calgary Flames?

I like the third trade. part of me wants to keep Colborne, but it can be argued that he deserves the money that Bouma got (which is too much for Bouma) and I don't know how you keep both those players with those contracts.

What I like most about the third trade is the wonder about the second part they talk about in the moving up into the top 5. Would a team like Columbus, Edmonton or Vancouver do that. Is those two picks too much for really only moving up two spots? Maybe something else coming back to even out a bit? At one time I would say take on a bad contract to help convince the trading partner. But the Flames don't really have that luxury any more. Would Columbus add Rychel (who at times seems to be on the outs with the team). Would Edmonton do 4th and 32nd for 6th and 15th? They could still easily pick Juolevi or Chychrun there and get a quality player at 15th. To me that is worth that trade if it means the Flames can pick Tkachuk.

If they couldn't trade that 15th pick to move up, I am more willing to take a defenseman ad 6th (juolevi or Chychrun) and perhaps fill the power forward spot at 15th with a player like Julien Gauthier.

In the end they are all interesting thought, but if past drafts are any indication, nothing will happen with the top picks and all teams will be picking where they sit.

Ortio will get less than a mil. He said himself that he didn't think he deserved much of a raise after the years performance.
I'm seriously hoping for another situation as last year and how BT completely filled our need for D and the depth for it. Only this time for the RW. Last year he signed Morrison out of College. Then Nakladal from Europe. Then the big trade for Hamilton followed by 2 excellent draft picks in Andersson and Kylington.
This year he's already signed Pribyl. Maybe he can add to that MIN trade and grab Tuch. Assuming we get left with Nylander, which I'm fine with, at 6. Adding Tuch, a big RW right shot with size skating and aggression. Then draft somone like Gauthier with #15. RW depth is filled. If we take Vanek for his last year @ $6.5 and give them Smid or Raymond, then we have Vanek on the RW until someone steps up. I think CGY and MIN make good trade partners.

I'll sign it ! After he spends a week in FA and finds out he's not worth $5mil. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Edm.

Yeah Dal usually is spot on but I don't see why Ortio would command 1.5 mill either. We can get a pretty experienced backup for those $$$.

I agree, Minny would be an excellent trade partner. Lots of talk about them trading Brodin but I don't see them really wanting to. I like the Vanek for 1 more year, he really does have something to prove & if we can dump Raymond back on them, I would be thrilled. If it also helps us get the #15, there could be some surprising drops to 15 no one would have expected.

Wow you guys actually think Colborne and the 2nd round pick can get us to #15?
I dunno....

Well yeah, I just am commenting on that article & if Minny took that deal I would pee my pants, why I was very quickly ready to add the other 2nd round pick we had. Don't sell Colborne too light, he's a centre, he's big & he had a 20 goal 40 point season. He is also relatively cost controlled, so yes more value than what we may give him credit for. If we traded him & next year he goes on to have a 55 point season & another 25 goals, we'll be getting the armchair critics of how stupid BT was not keeping him.

Also called Turek-itis...
Remarkable how point totals climb when the contract is up. I like Coborne, he's finally playing a big(ger) man's game but if he asks above 2 per... buh bye...

Colborne has only been given an opportunity to play since he joined the flames and has improved his points per game totals each year ...this is the perfect time to trade him as he is expendable as a center and low cap hit bake him more valuable than most realize

I could tolerate a deal identical to Bouma's (I would then be hoping that Bouma plays well enough for us to dump him at the deadline). I'd be happy with a 3x 1.75 but his hotstreak at the end of the year might have (frank)ed that possibility up. We can't afford to let him walk away for nothing as some have suggested, he is a useful asset with decent value on the market that is poor asset management.

Also, don't really think it's fair to call Joe a bad defensive player. He was a mainstay on our best shutdown line and I rarely ever recall swearing at him for a stupid play in our zone (Russell on the other hand gave me a workout last year ).
