Here's another description of Clarke provided by Red Line, who I enjoy as a scouting service:
One of Red Line’s scouts has been keeping tabs on Lone Star Brahmas (NAHL) defenceman Cameron Clarke (eight goals, 35 assists) and the cat is pretty much out of the bag on the late bloomer. Our man reports legitimate NHL interest in the Michigan native and Ferris State recruit, who played some junior hockey in Ontario before heading to Texas.
Clarke has good size, though he’s still lanky and needs to fill out his 6-2 frame. He skates well in a straight line, but his pivots and change of direction are still a bit rough. It’s nothing that can’t be improved with hard work between now and the time he transitions to the pro ranks, though. He’s an exceptional player at this level when it comes to his puck-moving ability and how efficiently he processes the play. He activates well to join the rush and aid in his team’s puck possession game, too.
With a draft as iffy as this one is, teams are looking for projects that could bring in some boom potential, especially later on. With Clarke, who turns 20 in May, where there’s smoke there’s fire — we don’t think teams would make the effort to go see him in the hockey hotbed (not-bed?) of Fort Worth if he wasn’t viewed as at least a mid-round pick. |

Here's a quote I love from Simon Nolet talking about finding Giroux. “You watch a game and they come to you. They do little things. Vision. How they pass the puck. Work ethic. So you watch for those kinds of things, but it is still hard to say after the first couple of games if a player is going to be a first-rounder. It usually takes about five times, unless the guy is a superstar — you see that right away."
Saw Keller once and thought he could be a superstar. Saw him 5-6 more times. Thought never once left my mind, not for a shift. |

Dreger says the 3,4& 5 picks are heavily in play.
Hexy, call Benning. He'll trade you 5 for Andrew MacDonald and Matt Read |

The other day we were throwing around the idea of Morin + 2nd/3rd for the 9th pick to take Keller.
I could see Benning taking Morin + 18. It would probably be Dubois there, but it's a trade I'd do. Take our 2nds, move up for Abramov or Dahlen or someone. Then apotheosis. |

In reality, trading down a few slots to acquire more assets does make sense in this draft |

Absolutely for a rebuilding team without a clear cut top guy at 5. Except that moron traded the 33rd pick in the draft as part of the Gudbranson deal.
I said this yesterday: if you worked for the Bruins FO, I want to trade with you. |

Here's my top 30 fwiw
1. Matthews- Future first line, 30 goal two way center. Nuf said.
2. Laine- Potential 50 goal winger. Game is not as well rounded as Matthews’ and Matthews is a center.
3. Puljujarvi- A winger who impacts all aspects of the game like a center. Great set up man and finisher is an absolute beast on the walls. Great skater if he was 5’10, but he’s 6’4. No weakness.
4. Keller- Incredibly skilled, but slightly undersized playmaking center. His hands and passing are exceptional, and he is a pretty good goal scorer in his own right. Top notch vision and is rarely out of position.
5. Dubois- Dominant center/winger. Dubois is a great skater with a large frame. Reminds me of a bigger Konecny. A goal scorer who can do pretty much anything on the ice.
6. Joulevi- Best defenseman and OHL player in the draft. Joulevi is a great skater with who smoothly transitions defense to offense. His vision is great and he uses it to advantage in every situation. He is the complete modern defenseman.
7. Tkachuk- Sturdy goal scoring winger who put up big numbers this year. Plays very well in front of the net. Tkachuk is somewhat reliant on his linemates, but he is a great complemenatry winger who completes hard and can score goals.
8. Chycrun- Solid, complete defenseman who has a filled out frame and solid offensive instrincts. He has all the tools to be an elite defenseman, but needs to work on his gap control and not chasing hits on defense.
9. Nylander- A Swedish sniper with magic hands. Nylander can certainly finish a play in style. He has a great shot and an arsenal of dekes. He needs to work on his consistency and keeping his feet moving. His game lacks urgency at times and it is incredibly frustrating to watch.
10. Brown- Massive two way center who doesn’t play very big. Brown has great hands and playmaking abilities. His skating is solid as is his defensive play. He needs to use his frame better and shoot more.
11. McAvoy- Another complete offensive defenseman. McAvoy is a strong skater and is efficient at tranisitionig the play to offense. He gets his point shots through and can elude defenders at the blue line. He is physical and has a strong stick in the corners. Needs to make smarter decisions with the puck.
12. Sergachov- Strong skating offensive defenseman who can play in all situations in the OHL. His puck skill, defensive stick and skating are all excellent. His overall defensive game could use some work.
13. Jost- Another very skilled center. He had an awesome u 18 tournamnet and BCHL season. He is a complete offensive center who is drawing Jonathan Toews comparisons before he attends UND in the fall.
14. McCleod- Rangy center who can absolutely fly. He competes hard every night, and his difficult to play against. He has strong hockey IQ which he uses to control the game. His offense needs some work, and if his hands catch up to his feet than look out.
15. Bean- Very skilled offensive defenseman. Bean and Sanhiem were absolute magicians on the power play in Calgary last season. Quick feet, quick hands and great shot. Needs to make better reads on defense, but can usually cover up his mistakes with his skating.
16. Rubstov- Skilled center with great vision. Rubstov has great hands and can play a solid tow way game. Very few questions about his game other than the fact that he is a “Soviet”.
17. Kunin- Scrappy and speedy center who can score prolifically when given power play time or good linemates. Put up big numbers at Wisconsin despite having a very poor team around him. Pretty complete game with breakaway speed as well.
18. Thompson- Big forward who has smooth hands and a bomb of a shot. Can score from a distance and from in tight. Can be a force in terms of gaining puck possession, but needs to keep his feet moving more. Needs to fill in his 6’5 frame and improve on his skating, and he could be an absolute star.
19. Bellows- Goal scoring powerforward who is a pure finisher. Could stand to play a little more physically and needs to be more impactful on the defensive side. Skating could use some improvement, but Bellows definitely has a knack for scoring goals.
20. Fabbro- Another strong skating two-way defenseman. Fabbro can run a powerplay well, and plays a good all around game. Honestly haven't seen him much, might be higher if I had.
21. Jones- Big, fast and a goal scorer. He looks to be a very good complementary scoring winger. The only problem is with IQ, Jones needs to not chase as many hits, and get better at gaining possession. Otherwise he’ll end up being an nrg player.
22. Asplund- Kid’s got wheels. Asplund is a very smart center who can control the neutral zone. Makes zone entries easy on his linemates, and challenges opponents effectively. Goes to the net in the offensive zone. Might play wing at NHL level due to size concerns.
23. Clague- Small, agile defenseman who has dropped a lot over the year. He is a great skater who can dance at the blue line. Very good offensive instincts and is usually responsible defensively.
24. Johansen- Composed two-way defenseman. He always seems to be in control. Also an adept passer and smooth skater. Plays a very no frills game, and could probably be considered a safe pick.
25. Dahlen- Dahlen’s skills are electrifying. He can deke, pass, and finish as well as just about anyone in the draft. He goes hard to the net and scores goals. His skating could use some work as could his two way play.
26. Benson- Once a sure fire top 10 pick he had a rough season with injuries. He is still a strong scoring winger with plus skating. Good leadership qualities as well. Benson plays a pro style game with good hands.
27. Howden- Big two-way center who is a good skater and passer. Can control the game on both sides of the puck. He is physical on the fore check and moves the puck efficiently on the powerplay.
28. Abramov- Typical small, skilled Russian. His skills are electric and his skating is great. Can pass and score. Needs to work on his overall game.
29. Dube – Awesome vision and patience with the puck. He works hard defensively as well. Has breakaway speed as well.
30. Gautheir- A big guy who can score. His skating is averge, and he seems like a safe pick. There are some serious issues with vision. He can’t control the two-way game, and he doesn’t make those around him better.
Just missed( no particular order)
Allison, Choslowski, Girard, Raddysh, Grundstrom, Laberge, Gregor, Mete, Debrincat, Fox,and Pu

Supposedly their ownership is bad too and is also pushing Benning to hurry up the rebuild. The blind leading the blind. |
