New guy, Lundberg will be in line for a 4th line/PK role as well. Seems like he'll be a Q guy. - TyCamScore
That would be great, I'd like to see Rasmussen back too but I'm not holding my breath on that. |

Heard he'll give you 0 offense but will add a little snarl and help on the dreadful PK could do this team (however it looks in the fall) wonders. |

But when they hired former Blackhawk advance scout Mike Sullivan they went out and added speed and stop adjusting... - wiz1901
No, it was Mike Johnston who was trying to make this group adjust to a methodical defense first group against the strengths of the roster and system strength. Sullivan came in and took the reigns off and devised a system to play to the rosters strengths.
In season after they hired Sullivan they added your guy Daley (but that doesn't count cuz he's a bum), cast off/bust out Schultz and Hagelin. Inside the system I think Sullivan brought up Sheary and Rust...... All others moves were made before Sullivan was hired, Bonino, Kessel, Cole, Lovejoy, Fehr, Cullen.
Sullivan changed the system and Daley, Hagelin and Shultz were then added. http://www.nhltradetracke...eam/Pittsburgh_Penguins/1 |

Maybe a simplified 4th/energy line would help this team. It appears we no longer have the depth to roll 4 legit scoring lines.. Fine. Put together a trio of pitbulls on that 4th line and turn 'em loose.

Any talk of Panarin getting a $6.5m/yr contract bugs me. Hawks need to stop paying 100-110% of the player's value. In order to win more cups, we need some players that are bargains. Hammer is a bargain at $4.1m. Darling at $600k. Shaw at $2m. Dunc is a bargain.
But Kane and Toews are paid at full price. Craw at full price. Bickell got a contract at 100-110% of his full value at the time. Seabs and Krug just got contracts at 100-110% of full price.
This has gotta stop.
I love Panarin. But if he gets $6.5m, he's just another player at 100-110%.
$5m is a much nicer number for the Breadman. At least until he plays a 2nd year like this one. |

Let me go on record without ever seeing this guy, only reading descriptions of his play, as of today he's the guy I'm looking the most forward to seeing in a Hawk jersey.
Good size, can skate, will play the body with pleasure, bottom 6 and accept a role. IF he can stay out of Q's doghouse.

Look what Cullen/Fehr/Kuhnackl did to SJ's 1st line of Thorton/Pavelsi/Hertl-Donskoi. Deboers in their first game at SJ matched the Thorton line against the 4th of PITT and they couldn't get out of their own zone, period. 2nd period he "adjusted" and kept his #1 line as far away from PITT's 4th as he could.
I'll take that kind of "production" all day long from a 4th line.

a # 1 Left wing that scores a point per game that will be 25-33 if he gets a 8 year deal is a good value at 6.5. He falls right about at #15 of highest paid wings in the league. a #2 D man at 31-39 at 6.875 is a bad value.

A good portion of the cap hell the Hawks face is due to so much salary ($21m) tied up in two players. It doesn't matter the value/quality of those two players. I have no problem with those salaries. It's simply a math problem and a relatively flat cap right now. That $21m is crushing the Hawks.
Any discussion of adding Malkin to that math, making it $30m on 3 players, is complete and utter folly. Ridiculous.
I don't care if they trade Seabs and AA for him (giving up more salary commitment than they get back).
The Hawks can NOT build a championship caliber team with $30m tied up in three players (at least until the cap rises above $85m). The math around that leaves the team with 4-5 Mashinter quality players.
Stop this nonsensical, waste of time discussion. - Cmonalready
Indeed the math. I think this is an internal discussion that has guys like JJ hearing things. Does the math allow for 2-3-4-5 or 6 "core" players in a stagnant cap NHL?
When they have that answer they identify the core and maybe it's what we always believed the core to be or maybe it's a new core, all based on the MATH.

Have to check on the tagging rules and how much space they actually have...
It would be wise to, but if he's going to want close to market value, and I bet he does, see my above example of the worst case scenario for him....Kid is only going to get better here, especially playing with 88 so him reaching those bonuses isn't so far fetched.
That's the debate you would have to imagine internally.....how much is Panarin worth to this team at X price compared to Y player at Z price? Because the only way to sign him is to make him par tof the core and ship off an existing core(as of today) member. - SteveRain
I understand the logistics of signing him early. I understand that it is a gamble to try to do so without knowing what the future salary cap looks like. However, you have to try to sign him now as cheaply as you can and cross the cap bridge when you get to it. If he is not signed by this time next year, the Blackhawks will more than likely be bent over the proverbial barrel, and he will probably have to be traded.

We should all realize how important desire is in obtaining the Cup. As important as FO, coaching, offense, defense, goaltending, home ice, etc.... You cannot win the cup without all of those.
Can captains will their team to victory (Crosby, Toews), not without a really good team. Can captains be that razors thin difference in winning a cup, I think so.
I think it is time for all the hockey genius's on this blog to repost their playoff predictions. At the beginning of the playoffs most posters would have ranked the Pens about the 6th (or lower) most likely team to win the Cup.
All the rage, and hate for Hawk's FO, coach, players indicates a lack of understanding how tightly bunched the top teams are in the post cap era. The Hawks will be in that top bunch next year with the same FO, coach, and mostly the same team.
Enjoy the silliness of Summer speculation. |

Lundberg is 27 in black. Took on Nilsson. Looks like a scrapper. - resqmed99
Thank you........ Looked around and here is a whole game from 2013. Lundberg is a left shot and at the 7:34 mark he gets a secondary assist. Honesty it's the first shift I saw of him unless I can't see him. He's wearing #27 in black.
Notice the room these guys have on the international sheet and imagine the NHL playing on it instead off the smaller sheet. All skating, skill and a lot of flow with few whistles although I'm only 10 minutes in.

How could Rocky / McD / either of the Bowmans / anyone connected with the Blackhawks front office with a brain - how could they agree to have this be part of the CBA back in 2013?
Absent an LTIR situation (certainly a possibility), does anyone really think that Hossa is going to play for $1MM per year for the last 4 years of his contract, in Chicago or elsewhere? - StLBravesFan
They were 1 of 30 owners. They technically had an out, which was to buyout Keith and Hossa, but realistically that just wasn't going to happen. |

Predictions with or without a few apples wagered? Biiiiiiiiiiig difference. Don't bet Hawk games, no fun swearing at the home team.
I had WSH winning it all at 4-1. Ticket on the floor.
Had NSH over ANA at 2-1. Ticket cashed.
STL over DAL at -120? Ticket cashed.
STL-DAL series to go 6. Ticket on Floor.
TB over Detroilet at -130. Ticket cashed.
STL over SJ at even money? Ticket on floor.
When TB was down 3-2 to PITT took TB to win the cup at like 12-1. (couldn't pass up the value) Ticket on floor.
Start of the Finals PITT to win the cup at a -125. Ticket cashed.
The series would go 7 at 2-1. Ticket on floor.
Crosby for Conn Smyth at 6-1. Ticket cashed.
Malkin to win Conn Smyth at 9-1. Ticket on floor.
Bunch of games along the way. So this genius will take the above all day long even though my cup winner was WSH at the start and I took em cuz they had a nice rugged defense that was a mixture of speed/skill/grit/vets and the 2nd best goalie on earth. |

No sense rushing out to sign him now . . One year at a time ,see if we can get Shaw done this year . If they can't sign him next year and he walks so be it . .At 6mil plus it will mean a couple 1rounders and a 2nd for a guy we could not sign and never gave anything up to get .Not to bad a deal ,in a cap era .Move on to the next best thing ..

Tarasenko is getting paid 7.5 mil for the same production and like I have mentioned earlier in another post, Tarasenko needed 4 years to be a pt per game player. Panarin did it in 1 year with consideration that he is playing with Kane.
So if we are lucky to lock him up for 6-6.5 for 8 years then we do it. He deserves that money more then Saad and Saad is getting 6 per and he isn't close to becoming a pt per game player.

Here's a link with some information of his deal, specifically how the NHL let the Devils off the hook with regards to the penalties they had to pay for trying to circumvent the cap rules: http://sports.yahoo.com/b...punishment-181853523.html
Basically, the amount of benefit the Devils receiving and the remaining amount of time on the contract pushed it down to effectively $250K/yr until 2025 |
