JJ, someone, anyone, how am I supposed to feel right now after that trade? Happy? Sad? Cap space now to pay Panarin? Bickell's $4 mil is now the Breadman's? Help! |

Anybody know what the picks are? Hawks only announced they were getting picks but not what they are . - Marlowe

Hmm... It's def a bummer to lose TT but given how awful Bickell's contract was, that's not the worst haul StanBo has ever received... - Frenchy4488
Seems underwhelming to me |

#Blackhawks now have estimated $60.96M projected cap hit for 7 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies.

Per @marklazerus
#Blackhawks trade Bryan Bickell AND Teuvo Teravainen to Carolina for second-rounder in 2016 and a third-rounder in 2017.
EDIT: thanks DK! Not digging it but relieved to lose the Bickell cap hit. |

Losing Bickell without any salary cap retention is awesome, but TT is a damn high price to pay. If Shaw is re-signed I can live with this deal. |

At least we now have a second round pick this year, when we did not have one. |

Crazy - I just walked past Bryan Bickell going into East Bank Club this morning, now he's off to Carolina. |
|
|
|
Honestly, I am fine with this.
TT just wasnt showing THAT much promise without being more aggressive/physical. He badly needs to add strength and was bailing out on too many plays.
We get two pretty decently high picks in return in exchange for the favor of losing Bickells complete hit over the next two years over buyout penalties.
We also needed to get draft picks back after chucking a bunch out the last two years.
I know some were high on TT, but he just really didnt inspire much confidence from me anymore after watching that St.Louis series. He was a small, timid player on a team that needs more guys to play above their weight |

Two roster spots on the Blackhawks top 12 just opened up. That could sway the decision of UND's Nick Schmaltz a bit. |

Not to mention it opens up space to entice a veteran top 12 player who might want a shot at the cup a-la Brad Richards and signs cheap |

I figured Teuvo was worth a mid-to-late first rounder, so this goes to show you the kind of negative value that Bickell has. I hate to lose Teuvo, but this means Shaw is definitely staying. They didn't wait around for something to happen, and I have to give credit to Bowman and the rest of the front office for getting this done as soon as they could. |
|
|
|
Also need to consider Bowman is also thinking ahead of what kind of raise needs to be given to TT next year with cap issues still looming when you factor in Shaws likely contract now moving forward as well as Panarins new deal moving forward.
It wouldnt be huge, but TT was probably staring at $2.5+ which they would still need to figure out room for
Not to mention TT likely wouldnt be expansion draft protected |

yeah, if looking at only TT and the picks I'd agree; however, losing the Bickell contract w/ no salary retained and no salary coming back is enormous value in and of itself... Then you look at the residual value of this trade possibly allowing for a Shaw resigning and/or money spent on a 1LW and it seems a decent trade all things considered.
We've seen much worse... |

Yea the more I think about it the better it seems. Not a terrible trade just very surprising. |

I think this is what the Hawks needed to do and not necessarlily what they wanted to do. TT, imho, will never be a top 6 guy because I don't believe he is physical enough. I think the orginization realized this and sent him packing as a result. |

Hawks could be targeting a vet who is going to get bought out and might play cheap on 1 year deal. |

Hurts to lose TT, I still thought he could be a good player, but at least it's Carolina where he's going. Obviously getting Bickell off the books was imperative and TT who is best suited at RW wasn't going to be in the top 6 any time soon.
Probably means keeping Shaw, helping extend Panarin and perhaps enticing SChmaltz. Plus this opens up a potential expansion draft protection slot as well.
Best of luck to TT in Carolina. I'm interesting to see how Stan uses the additional cap space. |

Hawks had no picks in this draft until the 3rd round. This now gives them pick #43.
While not a first round pick, it is still high enough that they should get some talent.
I guess thats the Vig to take a useless player and $4MM of cap space, |

Trade: #Blackhawks get second-round pick (2016) and third-round pick (2017) from #Canes for Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen. - DarthKane
Thanks Darth. Seems like a high price for a sweetener, but:
- The Hawks didn't take back salary
- May have moved TT due to expansion draft considerations...or weren't comfortable with his development (a wag by me).
TT has unmistakable talent, the key, of course, is what he does with it
Let's hope Schmaltz can develop and live up to some of the early hype... |

Am told the Hawks moved cap space to make a run at a top-6 fwd in free agency. Okposo, Neilsen, Perron connected to the Hawks.
