Am told the Hawks moved cap space to make a run at a top-6 fwd in free agency. Okposo, Neilsen, Perron connected to the Hawks.

Id be fine with those.

Perron can frank off somewhere else

Nice move. Lost the Bickell anchor, get almost $5MM in cap space, and it only cost us a guy with no real place on the roster.

I wouldn't say the trade guarantees Shaw is back. Need to know what other moves Bowman is working on.

Did stan retain salary? Hope not. I think we all saw this coming. Outstanding deal for what its worth if no salary was retained.

I wouldn't say he had no real place on the team. He was inexpensive 3rd line RW that also filled in admirably at 2C, 1C and 1RW when there were injuries. Not saying the guy was irreplaceable but he was useful to this team.

Based on how many guys we can protect we might just decide to trade the last man out and get value for him now while opening more cap room. Wouldn't be shocked if Shaw is traded

Carolina still a long way from the floor. No need for Stan to retain.

Naming all of the positions he could or did play means he didn't have a place on the team. He chipped in occasionally but I'm not crying he's gone. 2nd and 3rd is probably under market value for him but getting rid of Bickell's deal is huge

Agreed 100%. Teuvo was versatile and played well in most situations.

The cost of dumping a salary like Bickell-- So the anchor and the enigma both gone on day 1-- setting up to be a pro active summer for Bowman-- good on him!

IMO -- Hawks determined they would prioritize limited resources to resign Shaw and Panarin rather than reinvesting in TT-- obviously would rather keep TT but this is what the cost is to make up for a bad contract-- plus with an expansion draft coming into play-- better to get ahead of it than wait--

He doesnt really have a consistent spot in the top 6 and its clear that he needs better players to play with to be a good player (hence his good showing with Sharp and Vermette in 2015)

He was never going to develop to the hopes or expectations with his role on the third line, especially with those linemates

Not necessarily...it just means he's talented enough to assume a top 6 role if there are injuries.

He can definitely become a top 6 player in the NHL. It just wasn't going to happen with the wealth of talent in Chicago. Teuvo has skill, talent, and hockey smarts. He'll be a valuable player for Carolina. If he ever adds some strength to his body, he could be an impact player.

I read in the hockey news that Okposo and Toews are good friends. I think the deal was to resign shaw and add depth. If Craw and more salary is moved I see the Hawks going for a big name. Otherwise it will be buyouts on one year prove it deals in my opinion

I wouldn't say never...he's still young. BUT...you deal from a position of strength. TT was expendable, especially with the possibility of Schmaltz and Motte coming. And with NO MONEY retained or coming back...this trade was worth it. Good luck to both Bickell and TT.

You don't want to touch Okposo or Nielsen with a 10 foot pole if they get 6M+ each

Stan pulls the trigger on the first big trade this offseason while his poppa Scotty is in church for Mr Hockey's service-- has a Godfather feel to it!

Got the news while watching the Gordie Howe service -- immediately thought of Godfather scene-- when all debts are paid--

Can somebody provide options on Scuds remaining deal...

If he retires do we get another ~1MM in cap space, can we buy him out...etc...

Just moving on to the last bad contract we have to deal with...

100% agree

But I also dont see any way Nielsen gets close to $6 mil

Hes a 32 year old center. I think he is looking around 3 years, $4.5-$5 mil per

He was "talented" enough but his production with top 6 was not good and he wasn't good enough defensively to be a true bottom 6 guy. There truly wasn't a good fit for him on this team.

Honestly...for stretches Richard Panik fulfilled a top 6 role better than TT ever did.

Trade: #Blackhawks get second-round pick (2016) and third-round pick (2017) from #Canes for Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen.
- DarthKane

The 43rd overall ...
as good a chance as getting a good developmental player from 25-60

The darkhorse is the season long injured defenseman Josh Mahura of Kamloops, who for sure would have gotten first round consideration if he hadn't torn his MCL.

I figured Teuvo was worth a mid-to-late first rounder, so this goes to show you the kind of negative value that Bickell has. I hate to lose Teuvo, but this means Shaw is definitely staying. They didn't wait around for something to happen, and I have to give credit to Bowman and the rest of the front office for getting this done as soon as they could.
- Hawks_49

If the trade was Tt for a 2nd and a third most likely mid to top half wouldn't be good but losing all of 29s salary makes it a win. I believe tt staying in Europe to heal didn't help

Really sad this had to happen cause there is still a lot potential in TT but maybe Canes is better place to him. He can united there with Finnish players Sebastian Aho and Aleksi Saarela.
