Last year he did not seem very happy about playing in Utica. He is a gamer and has had a long career in the NHL not the AHL. The possibility will always exist that a player like Higgins, pride and all, may not want to finish his Career playing in the AHL. He may not retire and try his best to stay in the NHL and leave 29 teams on his trade list to do so. But that doesn't change the fact that if he doesn't want the AHL, and has it in his head that is the only place he will play next season, he could do just that.

There are easily 10 teams in the NHL that could benefit from having Higgins on the 4th line and for the PK. He knows Van is going with a youth movement. I'm thinking he will be the back end of a trade package...
