Agree but I think a deal for Puljujarvi would fetch an even bigger package from someone else - allsports
Very possible .
I wonder what the hell is going on with Puljujarvi? He seems to be dropping |

we're completely fleecing the Habs and I don't think its real but sh*t thats a trade i'd take in a heartbeat - Gallagher got more heart than all the Care Bears combined - Brown or Sergachev at 9 isnt a bad substitute for losing out on PLD or MT - Brooks_Light
No way would the Habs ever do that trade. I doubt they would do Gallagher straight up for the 5th. Gallagher is the type of player every team would love to have, he brings way more to the table than his 40 to 50 points per year. |

I think that Cbj just have so many good young prospects they're probably thinking they need some good veteran help instead, like a Brouwer or along those lines. They need to jettison salary though.
Puljujarvi has wheels from his highlight package but he reminds me a bit of Mason Raymond where the shots weren't going in compared to Laine who's the sniper for Finland.

Nope
BUT
Gallagher and JVirt together would make for great TV - Brooks_Light
My bad I forgot Gallagher got to the Vancouver Giants after Lucic left but still I find the rumour enticing. Gallagher would make ANY of our lines better. Guy is a spark plug energizer bunny. My thinking was MNGT (or ownership) would want Lucic and Gallagher here together as the fans recognize with them from the Giants days.. |

Habs have lots of small forwards, they desperately want that French speaking center ever since Perreault so they will overpay to get that. You might not get that being. Hawks fan. |

MTL wanted to trade Gallagher to WPG but Gallagher wouldn't waive after Byfulien said Get in my Belly |

#9, #39 and #45 would be a high price for mtl to pay to move up to #5.
Gallagher is worth far more than the #45; we're into ek level of rumors on this one. |

Puljujarvi has certainly lost a bit of his shine but I don't get the Raymond comparison at all.
He is a very complete player and most scouts agreed was the more NHL ready player prior to Laine going off in the final month. I think Laine has really showed his potential is lights out but Puljujarvi is still a very special player and IMO will have a bigger impact next season.
I personally think CLB is just trying to see if they can get someone to overpay for him.

I spent my youth in Ottawa so I get it that the Habs covet french speaking players but there would be no guarantee Dubois would be there at #5. |

Don't shoot the messenger.
On the 1040 Pratt said this is the hot rumor of what is being offered.
To MTL 5OA
To VAN. 9 th OA 39 th OA and Brendan Gallagher.
That is a top 6 ready now player. Sergachev at 9 , D fixed, and a second round pick like a Tyler Benson comparable. It also makes Rodin or Sven tradable which would probably be a third round pick.
It is something to think about if that type of offer is there.
Gallagher BC boy with four years left at 3.25 per. - VANTEL
This fits perfectly with my interpretation of what JB meant. 3 pieces. Top six player, 1st round pick, 2 nd round pick |

Maybe Benning isn't as dumb as everyone credits him as. Maybe leaking out stuff to big mouth Dreger is starting the ball rolling with potential trade partners |

But that would not entice us to move it. We are beyond happy with PLD or Tkachuk. if PLD is available and MTL really wants him. This is the type of deal they need to get him or they can wait for the next french canadian future 1c. when is the next time one will come around? |

Agreed. Fan base would be on board and energized by that kind of move.
Especially if JB then packaged off the 2nd rounder and Tanev for an rfa dman he can sign such as Tyson Barrie...
Have to trade Tanev somehow...

i think they'll be making an announcement at the 3rd pick and benning will move up to pick Puljujarvi. it seems like CBJ wants to move down, but not too far and benning has had a hard on all year for the top three |

to me, #9 and the 2 2nd's is a reasonable overpayment.
anything more than that, and hurts the canadiens more than it helps imo. |

i trust Jim Benning's scouting eye... if he thinks Jessie is that much better i hope he goes for him..... i also fear when benning likes a guy too much he tends to pay a little extra (ie 2nd round picks)
wonder what the cost would be to move from 5 to 3. CBJ 2nd round and i'm guessing a decent prospect. Would Guance be enough or am i dreaming? |
