There absolutely could be a reason he wouldNT need to be protected but when I read the requirements for games played it made sense he did. He's played 109 NHL games and should be in his 3rd year of ELC. I'm not disagreeing but it's unclear to me why he wouldn't need to be protected with the outlined rules so far.
