A Fleury trade revolving around Engelland and the 36th would be about right. No way in hell we'd take back Wideman unless you give us something much more worth while than the 36th. Stajan or Bouma would also be acceptable as we can just expose them after next year for expansion. - Victoro311
That doesn't do a lot for us. After signing a back up goalie we clear maybe a million in cap space. So doesn't open up any benefits this year for adding cap and engelland doesn't fit our d- identity now. 36th pick is nice but I'm not sure it's worth giving up elite goaltending when your a cup contender. You take this deal if you just want to move fleury so you he's not a distraction.

Flower isnt going anywhere next season. Having a solid 1/2 goalie combo is a must. Who would be murray's back up? Zatkoff? No thank you. Jarry? He hasnt played in one nhl game. |

To me moving fleury now has more to do with using his cap hit better ...ideally you move him for picks and/or prospects and use his cap space to better the team or you trade him for a player you think can help next year |

Ya why I would be against taking engelland back unless return was pretty good |

I doubt Malkin gets dealt. There is no value in it and there are other cap options that make much more sense...dealing 1+ of Kunitz, Cole, Daley (combined 9.3mil) would free up space to get a decent team iced and allow some resignings. Recall Wilson and maybe Sundquist will need spots, maybe Sprong as well. I see Pouliot being give a shot too...need to make space for these guys.
I'd prefer to hold on to Fleury for at least half of the next season since, despite stretches of being very solid, Murray is not a proven goalie and there is a risk when teams focus on his weaknesses in games with lower intensity. He drops quickly, has problems with wrap arounds, stick handling needs help, lets in softies too frequently, etc. Not that I think he has a lot of "flop" risk, but there is enough to keep Fleury around imo...split 50-50 makes sense to me. |

I doubt Engelland is part of a deal ...I would guess it would be a pick and either one of wideman bouma or a prospect |

It can be difficult to pull off a big trade in-season. I think that is main reason to just do it this off-season. Plus fleury might be more receptive now. He likely would want to get to do training camp with his new team and start building up a new hockey family. |

All things being equal I agree with you. If its announced at the NHL awards in a week that expansion won't happen in 2017 then sure. But we can't risk losing Murr to expansion because Fleury is auto protected. If expansion comes in 2017, we need to move him. |

I love how Ek uses the word "probable". Especially when talking about Malkin, this is more hilarious than usual. |

I am curious about fleury to Calgary. Calgary fans what do I think? Is the 6th pick too much to ask for, perhaps with the pens sending back one of their 2 second round picks?
Here's the deal with Geno my main man!!!!!
Short and sweet.
1. He loves Pittsburgh
2. Pens have a shot to repeat.
3. Pens have no incentive to trade him with a relay deep roster already it would be difficult to take back multiple players for him.
4. Few players good enough to be trade straight up and those that are won't be traded, example (Tavares, ovechkin, kopitar, Tarasenko)
Let me school you all on Malkin. He does not get traded. First off, the penguins r in good shape to bring their team back next year. The only free agents on defense are Lovejoy and shultz(RFA). They have the young Pouliot ready to jump in and play more as we'll. the only forward free agents r Cullen, Bennett, sesito, and porter. All of these players could leave and have minimal impact. Only Cullen was a regular player in the playoffs. They have Sundqvist the step into this role. They also bave Wilson and Sprong, two very successful minor league wingers ready to come up for inured players or to earn a roster spot. So purely from a roster standpoint it makes O sense. (They're actually set up really nicely to stay highly competitive for several years, with their older players contracts expiring as it's time for the young bucks extensions to come in)
Therefore if they trade Malkin, it would have to be for multiple players because his value is so high. This would force them to bench one of their other successful players who helped on their cup run. So only a one for one with draft picks would work, there are few franchise centers on malkins level and if they have one, that team will not risk trading their own star center/franchise player. A highly unlikely deal for another star, or the first or second overall pick because they get a stud, who is younger and cheaper.
Malkin loves Pittsburgh. His parents come to every game and the crowd cheers them Like crazy. Everybody understands what he sacrificed, basically playing a third line role in the playoffs to the benefit of the team. The fans In Pittsburgh love him just as much as Crosby, he just doesn't get the media attention because of the North American/Canadian bias In the NHL. |

I've been trying like hell to figure out this f@cking Carlyle hiring and on the surface, it makes no sense, especially when it's rumored that Travis Green also interviewed really well. Anyway, I think I've figured it out! Tell me what you think Pens fans.
Murray hires Carlyle to really piss off Getzlaf. Getzlaf agrees to waive his NMC and Murray trades Getzlaf to PITT for Malkin (who also agrees to waive his NTC). PITT gets $1.25 million in cap space and one year less on a long term contract. ANA gets a #1 center (who's always wanted to be the #1 guy) who's 2 years younger. Murray and Rutherford have a history... |

absolutely not, Bennett is still close to untouchable
only way i could see that happening would be if every other goalie was somehow unavailable AND flames couldn't move any other salary. even then i'd hate it - S Kaspar Rollins
I have to agree. Calgary has to be pretty psyched with Bennet/Monohan as their 1-2 centers long term. Fleury is an asset but there are a lot of goalies on the market and a lot of teams against the cap with contracts still to sign. There is a market for wideman and teams that will still take him and same for Fleury. I just don't see large assets like Bennet being traded to acquire an inconsistent tender. If you like tenders that showed promise and might be good still, I think Ward would be a target. He won the Conn Smyth. He might be a great gamble for some team. |

Maybe but there are easier ways to piss off a guy enough to move him. Especially when you are trying to convince him to go to the stanley cup champion team. Plus he has played with Crosby a few times. It would be cool if this was right but it sounds pretty elaborate when he most likely would be willing to go. |

Actually, he wouldn't be willing to go. Getz married a Socal girl and they don't leave willingly. If Murray tried to play nice, Getzlaf's wife Paige would just say no and that would be done with. |

What's funny is that Malkin has never said he wanted to be "the guy". Hell, even Sid let's geno come on the ice last. Why on earth would someone want to be "the guy" on a loser team? - drummer829
Kessel was "the guy" in Toronto. Now he is "a guy" in Pittsburgh. Which situation do you think he preferred? |

Again, this is why I'm asking, but instead of creating a cordial conversation, people on message boards love to just jump on people any chance they get. - Rinosaur
Dude,
Sure it was a start to the conversation, but it was a ridiculous start.
I could easily start a conversation by asking if the Islanders trading Halak for OEL was a fair deal also, but why bother. If you don't know how ridiculous it is, then I am not sure why you are here.

Didn't know that about his wife. There are some players that will live in completely different places than they play. For example Heatley had a home in Kelowna and Luongo lived in florida when he played for Van. Guess if you have a social wife that changes things. |

But didn't Lehner get a 2nd and Talbot a 1st?
I think a 2nd alone is probably not enough. Maybe two 2nds |
