From a business point of view it would make sense to trade Malkin.

Mario wants to sell the Penguins. What better way to sell the team now, when its grossing its highest. Malkin's contract would become a long term liability, with that gone, Mario could advertise to a prospective buyer that less committed to long term contracts equals long term saving.

From a hockey point of view, trading Malkin makes no sense.

I guess people outside Calgary don't realize Brodie is arguably the Flames best d and definitely untouchable as hell. Certainly not for an older goalie with term in a year the goalie market is flooded.

So Malkin wants out so he can be "the guy"? I guess that's contrary to all of the reports when he said he loves it in Pittsburgh and really doesn't want to be "the guy".

Frankly, the exact opposite has been reported.....repeatedly by local reporters. Malkin might not finish his contract in Pittsburgh, but it won't be because he wants to the be the recognized leader of his team.

Man... these off-season Malkin rumors have almost become like an annual thing. I'm pretty sure EK has an alarm set to remind him to put out a Malkin rumor.

Malkin makes $9.5M a year, has two Stanley Cup rings and the following trophies/awards: Hart, Conn Smythe, Art Ross(2), Ted Lindsay Award and the Calder Trophy.

If that's not being "the man," I don't know what is.

Brodie's a beast, and pit has no real leverage, they're either going to trade him in the next year, or lose him (or Murray) in the expansion draft. It'll probably take a mid 6 forward, and a 2nd or 3rd to get him, and even that might be too much.

If the Flames offered the 35th pick I wouldn't be too butt hurt. I dont know why everyone on here is so negative towards Calgary. I think they are an up and coming team that would be attractive to a guy like Fleury. All of the "contenders" don't have room for a guy like Fleury. I think Calgary is a great fit.

I call bs on Malkin moving. You can't say be the guy and Chicago in the same sentence plus what would the Penguins get in return??? When Rutherford first showed up in Pittsburgh he said the team hasn't recovered from the Staal trade and he sees why this team needs great centers. The penguins defense is horrible without Crosby and Malkin's defense... They finally got back to the way they need it and now blow it up again.
